Turns out that Eldrazi Displacer is in fact completely broken for multiple reasons.
The obvious reason #1: It lets you spam ETB effects until your opponent curls up and starts crying in the corner.
Reason #2: It lets your other creatures dodge removal.
Reason #3: It taps down nasty blockers.
Reason #4: It kills Hangarback Walkers and all their overly prolific thopters for just 3 mana.
Reason #5: It's 3 mana, cough cough Collected Company cough cough and the new, potentially equally broken card Matter Reshaper are gonna have a field day with this one.
Q. So what does this deck do?"I make and sell value."
A. It's a value engine. Every last aspect of the deck is built to generate obscene levels of tempo and various forms of advantage out of cards with 3 or less CMC. Winning is just a byproduct of the value it generates, knocking in a few blows here and there to whittle your opponent to 0.
Card Choices
Eldrazi Displacer: It's like LSV became a magic card and planted his sultan-esque rump on the battlefield of Standard.
Den Protector
: This deck runs green.
Den Protector
is green. This deck runs
Den Protector
.
Collected Company: You might as well just replace this card's text with "Obtain tempo + value."
Harbinger of the Tides: Send their annoying durdlers flying off the battlefield on a wave of tempo advantage.
Knight of the White Orchid: He slices, he dices, he fixes by snatching up Canopy Vista and Prairie Stream, he bashes. What more could you want?
Matter Reshaper: Drooling Sounds Just... just read the card. It's dumb. Especially so in a deck that doesn't run any permanents out of its range mainboard.
Nissa, Vastwood Seer
: Late game potential in an early ramp tool. It just gets us close to setting up permanent residence in magical christmas land.
Reflector Mage: The new official tempo.card. Saying that your opponent can't cast Siege Rhino on turn 4 can be very back breaking.
Stasis Snare: Premium, instant speed removal with an invulnerability to Dispel in the current meta. Testing across with Dromoka's Command and
Silkwrap
, each of them are equally appropriate.
Void Grafter
: I fell in love with this card the moment I saw it. The name. The art. The flash. The ability to eat removal. The low casting cost. Oh, and he also allows Eldrazi Displacer to get around that annoying little "Other Creature" clause when it's trying to dodge
Silkwrap
, etc.
Wall of Resurgence: It blocks Siege Rhino for days, reawakening the same land over and over again with Eldrazi Displacer makes a late game monstrosity. and it costs only 3 mana. Thanks Wizards. Thanks a bunch.
Sideboard Card Choices
Altar of the Brood: One third of the new "Brood Combo", featuring Eldrazi Displacer,
Brood Monitor
, and this. Transformative strategy vs. overly grindy or high lifegain decks.
Arashin Cleric: Quick, anti-burn option, and even more synergy with the rest of the deck.
Brood Monitor
: See Altar of the Brood.
Dispel: The "Brood Combo" isn't a big fan of instant speed removal, so we stop it with even more support alongside
Void Grafter
.
Linvala, the Preserver: Ann odd choice to be sure, but after witnessing the raw damage she can do to abzan decks I was convinced she'd found a home in this format.
Vryn Wingmare
: We run 6 noncreature spells, that's it. Hardly hurts us in the slightest. It also has evasion. Oh, and it costs 3.
