Next pack should be coming soon. Hoping for some Bombs as well (in pack three, of course). At least the current number of Gatekeepers means our gate priority is on fixing more than anything else, but I am a little concerned by our current gate number.

To be fair though, we haven't exactly seen a lot of on color gates though.

One thing that does concern me though, someone's taken 2 gruul cluestones from the last 2 packs. Someone who is running green also seems to be running red as well. I wonder if someone opened a gruul bomb in this pack and is now going for those cards.

You weren't alone in noticing the lack of those cluestones. And considering the lower-pick priority nature of Cluestones, I wonder just how much to the right they are from us.

Still waiting on the pack, btw.

Pack's finally up.

Is the enchantment too cute to consider?

I have never found Gleam of Battle to be all that useful. If i run it whenever i draw it there's always something more important that i want/need to play first. Its just too slow.

+1 Golgari Cluestone

What about the rusher? A surprise extra 6 damage is nice and we do have some big gold features they may not be expecting.

+1 Rusher

I actually prefer the rusher to the sentinel. Six damage is a lot, and turning your big guys into beaters right away always hurts

I have generally found that Maze Rusher is exceptionally underwhelming. I would rather take a cluestone in this case.

July 17, 2013 9:44 a.m.

Will we even end up playing cluestones? I'm not sure I've played any yet in like 6 drafts. (Note: I'm not a draft master, but I consider myself decent winning every so often)

But we've also just talked about last pick how we were going to use cluestones to ramp. I'm pretty sure we need some to use them. Thus the cluestone pick

July 17, 2013 2:57 p.m.

Hmmm even so, with us going Naya, none of the clue stones we currently have or are thinking about are on both colors. Unless we are going 4 color like RWGb to hit Willing and maybe Rot Farm Skeleton?

If that's the case I'd be down for the cluestone I guess. Or are we just picking them up for general ramp?

Honestly this might be a good point to tally what we have so far.

Going by Naya colors we have
14 creatures
4 Instant/Sorceries/Enchantments
2 Gates
2 Single Color Cluestones
3 Non-Naya

Going by these numbers I'd probably have to rule out the Maze Rusher. We already have a fairly good number of creatures to the point that we'll probably end up cutting creatures from the final deck and the Rusher would probably be one of the first cut.

It's not a terrible idea to try and get that Golgari Cluestone for the potential to splash for late game black (We will need at least 2 more WRGB gates or cluestones to even attempt it though, more would be better). Just be aware that it will probably make our deck slightly more inconsistent while not really giving our deck that much more power with what we currently have, but it would increase the number of guild cards we could grab in pack 3 from 3 guilds to 6 guilds increasing our chances of finding a useable bomb.

We are also severely lacking in Sorceries/Intants/Enchantments atm and would probably end up main decking Gleam of Battle. It's not a terrible card, especially in a draft with limited removal and with he ramp we might be planning, but it certainly would be the 6 cmc card I would want to see the least.

So the pick in my mind is between the Golgari Cluestone and the Gleam of Battle. It just depends what type of risk you want to take.

Also, in general block drafting I would almost never run cluestones, but in a 3xDMG draft they are pretty much the only form of ramp we are realistically getting unless we get passed like 5 more druids. It's not like there are Keyrunes available or anything. If we want ramp, we'll need cluestones and given how our current curve is looking we will probably want ramp, even if it's essentially colorless mana.

i think i like the chance of finding a bomb better.

+1 cluestone

July 17, 2013 8:21 p.m.

Supersun says... #15

Well, remember, it's not just finding a bomb, but finding a black related bomb AND at least 2 more related black gates or cluestones.

July 17, 2013 8:51 p.m.

Supersun says... #16

Err, the gates and cluestones don't have to be black related, just WRGB.

July 17, 2013 8:51 p.m.

Well I guess when in doubt go with ramp, and who knows maybe we'll be able to pick up a GoG lol

+1 Golgari Cluestone

So, general consensus is going towards the Cluestone.

Submitting the Cluestone.

Pack's up a little early.

Pick 13 will be done as it was last time: With a twelve-hour time limit. 14-15 will be autodrafted by KC, and we should have a little extra time with the start of pack 3.

Either the Wear / Tear for the sideboard or the Wake the Reflections and hope we get at least 2 more gates and at least 1 more Sunspire Gatekeepers (which would give us 3 token producing targets).

I'm probably leaning more towards the Wear / Tear since I seem to remember that one of the packs had a Sunspire Gatekeepers that got taken in the first pass around the table. I don't remember if that pack was just bad where it was their only pick or if they are drafting a gatekeeper strategy (there were 3 Orzhov Gates that we passed) which might make it difficult to get the additional gatekeepers that we need.

July 18, 2013 2:30 a.m.

Supersun says... #22

At the same time though, in the next pack we might be passing to the person with the Orzhov gates instead of getting passed from that person (or it could be the reverse).

+1 Wake of Reflection

I just looked through the list of Artifacts and Enchantments in DMG. Why on earth would we ever want Wear / Tear. The only artifacts in DMG are cluestones, and the only enchantment that I'm even remotely threatened by in DMG is Unflinching Courage, and from what I've seen there aren't exactly a ton of people running both green and white.

July 18, 2013 5:18 p.m.

My only internal debate was if people would have Unflinching Courage. If that's a small chance, then let's go for Reflection

+1 Wake the Reflection

July 18, 2013 5:33 p.m.

I feel like Wake the Reflection, while being pretty iffy in block draft, is even worse here. I'd much rather have Wear / Tear in the event that our opponent does end up having something like unflinching courage.
