Daitoppa Shinkiro (which translates to "Great Breakthrough Mirage" in Japanese) is a control deck I consider to have an ultimate defense. Granted, all decks have weaknesses (including this one), however it features a shield combo that many can't break without help. It also runs a powerful control suite and possesses many other nice features. This deck is probably my greatest creation, my pride and joy.
The Shield: Energy Field + Wheel of Sun and Moon + Greater Auramancy. Energy Field is the actual damage stopper, and on its own it is a balanced card. However, when combined with Wheel of Sun and Moon, you get a base shield that stops all damage and, as a side effect, stops all mill decks as well. Greater Auramancy protects and enhamces the base shield through granting shroud to all of my enchantments.
The Control Suite: Counterspell, Cryptic Command, Brainstorm, and Sensei's Divining Top + Counterbalance. First off, you can't go wrong with the original Counterspell. Cryptic Command gives one so many fun options it needs no explaining. The Countertop combo (Counterbalance + Sensei's Divining Top
) was originally added in as an extraneous 2/2 combo, but over time it has become a deck fixture. Brainstorm rounds out the control suite, and it's rather helpful to draw and get rid of unnecessary cards, especially since I can reshuffle right afterwards
The Tutor Suite: Enlightened Tutor, Mystical Tutor, Muddle the Mixture and Idyllic Tutor. A total of thirteen tutor cards that let me search up anything in the deck I need? Done deal. As an extra added bonus, Muddle also serves as a counterspell for me, even though I principally use it as a tutor.
Win-con and Extra Cards: The lone Luminarch Ascension is my win condition. After setting up the shield and staving off my opponents, this comes out to summon an angelic army...in four turns. I run a Ponder to help out with deck thinning and manipulation. Leyline of Sanctity is there to give me hexproof, because the shield doesn't protect from targeted life drain and other shenanigans.
