Some spot removal would be useful, such as Go for the Throat , Path to Exile , and Swords to Plowshares . card:Sensei's Divining Top is also very good in EDH/Commander.

All those cards were in my big pile, and some were among the last to get cut. I figured the mass removal and tutoring in the deck in addition to the spot removal I already have would be enough to cover me, but Swords and Path are good enough that I should think about trying to get them back in. Both the Top and Crystal Ball were among the very last 5-10 cuts, and that was because I wasn't interested in having to spend the time doing all that extra physical manipulation to grind out marginal advantages, but again, if I want to have the best version of the deck, I should try to get them back in there.

I've only played 2 games with the deck so far, so I haven't come across anything that feels like obvious fluff needing to be taken out, but is there anything in the list that strikes you as such?

Thanks for the comment!

Treasure Trove seems like it could be replaced, because with all the cards that return creatures to your hand like Urborg Uprising , you usually won't have enough mana to draw single cards with it. Another very good card in Commander is Acquire . All Commander decks have good artifacts!

Phyrexian Rebirth would be good in a multiplayer setting and its only 2 more than your other ones.

Recently our playgroup has been playing the death out of Final Judgment in place of Wrath of God effects, and shifting to the card:Twilight's Call and Rout style wrath's. Syphon Flesh seems a solid idea for removal.

I'd be tempted to include a copy of Netherborn Phalanx just for kicks, plus it could transmute for some of your wrath effects.

A potentially odd choice that I might consider, but can't speak too because I haven't tested it yet. But in theory seems sound in commander is the Standard Bearer and its fellows. Especially with the grave recursion you have here it'll keep your big guys a little safer, i'm debating putting some into my Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter deck. Just to keep the big scary vampire from being shot off before he can attack or start machine gunning people down.

I also forgot to mention Fate Transfer as being extremely useful

@stacks Yes! The only reason Phyrexian Rebirth wasn't in my pile is because my only copies are in another deck right now. It's been on my mental list of things to get more of for a while, but I haven't had a chance to go out and trade with people in a few weeks (I prefer trading for in-print stuff to straight up buying it).

@planar_snap I do like the idea of Rout . The problem with Final Judgment is that I can't recur my creatures that get killed by it. I don't have many, and I may take 1-2 out in the next round of changes, so I need to be able to make the most of them. Netherborn Phalanx was in the pile to begin with, but you're right that I should take another look at him, especially considering there are 13 cards he can tutor for and that his ability is a good panic button against players trying to swarm the field.

Yeah I think the Final Judgment is rather counter productive. Also I'm surprised you don't have either a Volrath the Fallen or a card:Volrath's Stronghold Seem's like they'd be pretty solid choice's too.

Oh and a little card that's earned an localite that played Sen Triplets and Maga, Traitor to Mortals some minor shock moments at how it actually can be is Phyrexian Etchings Also there's the possible use for more recursion of creatures from the grave is Haunted Crossroads /Oversold Cemetery

I made a couple changes based on feedback.

-1 Congregate , -1 Darkslick Drake , -1 Opportunity , -1 Wayward Angel

+1 Crystal Ball , +1 Path to Exile , +1 card:Sensei's Divining Top, +1 Swords to Plowshares

Also a little shakeup in the Maybeboard. Some of those things were just silly.

I love playing Serra Ascendant and Aven Mindcensor in any edh deck that has white. Turn one Ascendant is a huge advantage right from the beginning and the Mindscensor can really shut down green's mana ramping and all the tutoring that happens. Other than that I really like it +1

Tutors are so hard to come by nowadays for EDH, so perhaps Diabolic Intent ?

Rhadamanthus says... #13

It's a good thought, but the problem is I have so few creatures already, and would rather only have them die from one of my global removal spells going off (that's why I took out Wayward Angel in the last round of changes).

Ok, just wanted to suggest a tutor that wasn't too expensive.

For a cheap tutor I really like Demonic Collusion it's pretty decent in my opinion

Is it just me, or does your deck not support your Commander at all?

If you only use Dakkon Blackblade for the colors and play it like control, then there are better options out there. Sen Triplets and Merieke Ri Berit come to mind.

Rhadamanthus says... #17

It's true that there are better "control" commanders, but the point of Dakkon is to be a win condition. No matter what happens in the game, I'll always have a giant creature available to cast and start beating the hell out of other people with. Many games I've played with the deck so far have ended in exactly that way.

July 7, 2011 7:36 a.m.

Very true, but you may need some Armageddon recovery, perhaps Crucible of Worlds or card:Yawgmoth's Will?

July 8, 2011 2:31 a.m.

Rhadamanthus says... #19

I don't play very often with people who have mass land destroying effects in their decks, but if that becomes an issue I'll consider it. I'll put Yawgmoth's Will in the Maybeboard just because it's so good by itself.

Made some changes based on things I've seen not work as often as I like and other effects I wanted to try out:

-1 Dreams of the Dead , -1 Linvala, Keeper of Silence , -1 card:Martyrs' Tomb, -1 Twisted Justice .

+1 Bloodletter Quill , +1 Phyrexian Rebirth , +1 Rune-Scarred Demon , +1 Steel Hellkite .

Serra Ascendant and Sen Triplets in my opinion need to be in here. instead of Rupture Spire , i would put in Command Tower . in my opinion, this is a card that needs to be in any EDH deck.

what about adding Armageddon . after getting out some fatties, then you can just screw them over... what do you think?

other than that, have you thought about some basic ramp to help out Dakkon Blackblade ?

August 15, 2011 11:12 p.m.

Rhadamanthus says... #22

The only Command Tower s I have are in other decks (not currently on TappedOut), and I'd rather leave them there right now. The problem with Armageddon effects in general is that they cancel out a major point of the deck: to play a long control game and close it up with the help of a gigantic Dakkon Blackblade . Of course, that makes me want to re-think the earlier advice from TetrAggressive about Crucible of Worlds .

Sen Triplets is a good idea for another good control card, though. I'll try to remember to check my collection later. I personally think Serra Ascendant is too cheesy to play, but people keep suggesting it, so I'll think about it some more at the very least.

I tried looking for land-ramp when I was first building this, but the only effects accessible to the colors that I felt would be worth it were all Plains-specific, and they all eventually got cut. Like I said before, I'm really just relying on the long game to draw into a lot of lands, and I can also tutor up Thawing Glaciers a couple different ways to help move me along. Are there any specific ramp effects you had in mind?

For specific Color fixing Expedition Map is always good?

August 16, 2011 3:39 p.m.

zandl says... #24

I like Terramorphic Expanse and Evolving Wilds better than Expedition Map , simply because they're great turn-1 plays.

August 16, 2011 4:04 p.m.

Rhadamanthus says... #25

Getting the colors of mana I need isn't really a problem. What permhole96 was suggesting was ways to ramp up the mass of lands on the board faster than normal to capitalize on Dakkon Blackblade 's particular talents, but digging around for more basic Plains isn't all that helpful to many of the rest of the cards in the deck.
