A look into one of the most unappreciated Commanders, Damia, Sage of Stone

X-O-X Overview X-O-X

When one looks at Damia, Sage of Stone, one can already envision all sorts of nastiness that one can get themselves into by looking to have a full-grip every turn. I have always felt that she is incredibly under appreciated in comparison to other commanders such as Tasigur, the Golden Fang and The Mimeoplasm, however, I have never seen a reason as to why.

The deck looks to create a board state that is apparently not very threatening until the combo goes off. This often allows you to be left to your own devices as you quickly prepare to combo off on your opponents, while being able to put up the odd fatty to protect yourself as well as wipe the board without destroying creatures to make you less susceptible to wipe-hate if the need arises.

How to Pilot:

One generally wants to be able to start the game off by using spells like Syvlan Scrying, Rampant Growth and Explosive Vegetation to be able to get to a board state where you are able to play some of the Utility creatures such as Prophet of Kruphix to allow you to continue using your mana during opponent's upkeeps to keep your draw going.

Your general mid-game would look like you have a fatty such as Sheoldred, Whispering One on the board protecting your board and keeping you from getting hit for too much. Tutors and fetches are what we are looking to play here as we set up our combo. We would be looking to get a counterspell ready as well as when our combo goes, we want to ensure that it hits the board.

The combo works as such. Tooth and Nail will fetch us two of three creatures needed to combo, being Palinchron, Eternal Witness and Deadeye Navigator. Once we have all three on the board we will play Time Stretch giving us two extra turns.

We continue to play Time Stretch while creating infinite mana situation with Deadeye Navigator and Palinchorn and an infinite recursion situation with Deadeye Navigator and Eternal Witness to bring Time Stretch back. We will then continue to play as necessary, board wiping if need be to clear the board for your larger fatties to punch your opponent to death.
