Danitha, Swordmaster is a mono-White voltron EDH deck.

The design of the deck is to get Danitha Capashen, Paragon into play, equip her with weapons, and protect her. The only creatures that are intended to hold equipment are Danitha, Soltari Foot Soldier, and Mirran Crusader. The rest are here for their utility. The average converted mana cost is low, and the deck can operate on only three lands in most cases, which is intended to make the deck faster than other EDH decks that have their bombs at 6-7+ mana.

Protection from your opponents' entire decks is available by searching up whatever flavor of Sword matches. You can also choose from Indestructible, Hexproof, or Shroud in Darksteel Plate, Swiftfoot Boots, and Lightning Greaves. You don't have to be limited by my theme (see "Why is your deck like this?" below) so I would recommend looking at better options like Commander's Plate or Mithril Coat.

Gift of Immortality: Infinite lives for Danitha (provided she's not exiled, bounced, or shuffled). Just don't give her Protection from White from a Sword or she's going to lose the enchantment and it won't reattach from the delayed trigger. This still comes back through Lightning Greaves because it doesn't target.

Hyena Umbra: Totem armor is a weaker, more limited, but cheaper version of Gift of Immortality.

Leyline of Sanctity: One of the prime ways opponents are going to remove Danitha is with sacrifice effects. While this isn't in here solely to stop that, it does sometimes help with the ones that target you the player.

Reconnaissance: Think of this like Maze of Ith for your creatures only. Use it to remove any of your attacking creatures from combat, before they take damage from whatever blocked them (attack with any of your utility creatures, if they get through, great! If they are blocked, just Recon them). You can also think of this as having the text: "Creatures you control have vigilance", because in the end of combat step you can untap your creatures with it and they have already dealt their damage (sneak in an extra point of damage with Stoneforge Mystic and then still use her search ability later). You'll just need to be mindful that this stops working if you have Protection from White or Shroud.

Eiganjo Castle: It doesn't come up often but this slot would otherwise be a Snow-Covered Plains.

Apostle's Blessing: Doubles at protecting your equipment from pesky Naturalize effects. I chose this over similar instants because it's only 1 mana and this deck operates on few lands.

Leonin Shikari: The main benefit of this is for hot-swapping Lightning Greaves wherever it is needed. Also, since Shroud prevents you from equipping any other equipment, you can feel safe moving the Greaves off onto Lenon Shikari temporarily, because you can respond to any removal by just putting the Greaves back on Danitha. Without my theme limiting you, look at Forge Anew instead.

Historically a weak point for the color, I use these for general draw/dig/filter (not trying to ramp or search up a specific equipment).

Puresteel Paladin: Turning your equipment into cantrips since Mirrodin Besieged.

Mazemind Tome: By the time this artifact kills itself you'll have gotten enough value out of it. But if you want a more permanent option look at Crystal Ball and Darksteel Pendant

Sensei's Divining Top: There's nothing I can say about this that hasn't already been said. It's extremely useful.

Sword of Fire and Ice: The draw is contingent on connecting in combat but it's one of the best of the 20 "Sword" effects in this deck.

Land Tax: Feel free to continue digging up Plains once you have enough land in hand to hit your curve. Keep filling up even if your hand is full. Removing them from your deck is often the best part of this, allowing you to draw real cards. If you want, you can hang onto a few of them to rebuild after Armageddon or Cataclysm.

Karn, Scion of Urza: Don't underestimate Karn just because your opponent chooses the card you get. You can control the two cards you reveal with Sensei's Divining Top or Mazemind Tome. If you flip over two good cards, get the other one back next turn with the -1. If you flip over two bad cards, great! You got to dig past two cards you didn't want. The Construct 0/0 C from the -2 can get beefy with the high amount of artifacts in the deck.

For personal and thematic reasons this deck intentionally excludes some cards from consideration:

  • any cards first printed in a Commander set
  • any cards that contain the keyword Commander
  • non-Magic, crossover, or alternate universe cards

e.g. Opal Palace, Nahiri, the Lithomancer, Benevolent Blessing, Akroma's Will, Mister Gutsy, Mithril Coat, Forge Anew

I forced including all 10 Swords, knowing it would be a better and more flexible deck if I cut some of the less powerful ones. I chose for this to be an equipment-heavy deck rather than enchantment-heavy even though Danitha Capashen, Paragon supports both.

I choose card versions in this order where possible:

  1. Retro frame
  2. Black border
  3. The first printing

I avoid these treatments where possible:

  1. Foil
  2. Full or extended art
