Sideboard

Maybeboard

A stax version of Daretti that can sideboard into a combo-heavy version.

Notable interactions:

-While I have removed most of the infinite combos (in particular, Basalt Monolith ), the remaining combos are still this deck's secondary win condition (the primary win condition being mass land destruction spells/abilities, which tend to prompt concessions when I can produce 4-8 mana from mana rocks). For example, one 'common' combo is Staff of Nin + Voltaic Key + Rings of Brighthearth + Everflowing Chalice on 4+ counters.

- Nevinyrral's Disk + Darksteel Forge = repeatable one-sided boardwipes

-Any 2-cost artifact that taps for mana leads to a T3 Daretti, which is extremely important for the deck to function.

Sideboard: my metagame is relatively artifact-light, so Vandalblast isn't helpful. Kuldotha Forgemaster goes infinite if I untap with 6 other artifacts and 3 mana available, which my playgroup got tired of watching. Mindslaver was banned from my deck for the same reason.

Mulligan strategy: Any hand that doesn't have 2 lands and a mana rock that can be cast for is unkeepable (barring hands with Sol Ring or Mana Crypt ). Crystal Vein can sometimes substitute for a mana rock for mulliganing purposes, but the hand needs to be extremely good. I've also seen hands where casting Gamble on turn 1 to find Sol Ring / Mana Crypt is reasonable, but only if over half the hand is comprised of solid artifacts.

Other tips: - Never cast Decree of Annihilation . It is in this deck for the Cycling trigger.

-Everflowing Chalice for is a fine play on turn 2 in this deck. Other than that, it's rarely correct to cast Chalice for anything less than .

-Sometimes it is correct to wait to play a land until after activating Daretti's +2, and discard a land in order to draw an extra card. Holding extra lands in hand is also reasonable, either to save up for after a mass land destruction spell/ability or to retain discard fodder for Daretti (and to a lesser extent, Chandra, Flamecaller ).

-Never use a mass land destruction spell/ability unless you can produce at least 3 mana from permanents that will survive. The point of playing those cards is to end up in a board position where nuking all lands leaves you significantly ahead of everyone else.

- Clock of Omens + Staff of Domination makes every artifact you control into a mana rock that produces less than the best mana rock you control. If you control 0 mana rocks and still have that combo together, something is SERIOUSLY wrong.
