Hello,
I've been playing with Darien for something like 10 years. I've tried Jank/Combo/Control then went full aggro/voltron I think I've found a happy medium. With some new cards released that caught my eye I've play tested the new cards in my regular playgroup of 4-5 people and my LGS community and have had great results.
The way you play this deck is to ramp so you get out your commander ASAP and protect him at all costs! I know I know in cEDH you don't ever want to rely on your commander this much but I love the flavor! Our pain lands ensure we have a steady flow of tokens that then trigger life gain and draw. How you win is up to you. I generally will combo out with Blasting Station You can put however many iterations on the stack before it's removed. You then use Skullclamp and an altar to just draw your whole deck and Grand Abolisher ensures nobody interrupts you. Our altars will give us unlimited mana for our needs. Akroma's Memorial for Haste so we can swing in with our 300 soldiers or however many you want to make.
Our enchantments really speed things along for example Anointed Procession and protect and buff our creatures in many ways. Aura of Silence is so good early it will stall out your opponents. Late game its still good removal and 3 cost so we can recur it if needed. Smothering Tithe gets insane with token doublers. Which is why we have most of the enchantment tutors.
Our creatures also provide the utility we need to survive and protect us.
This deck is by no means perfect. Hard counters to this deck are cards that prevent etb triggers like Tocatli Honor Guard or Torpor Orb. Also cards that prevent life gain Erebos, God of the Dead totally cripple us and is why Worship is in our list. Cards that tax many attackers like Ghostly Prison or Crawlspace, which is why we have voltron and combo options. For everything else, we pack lots of spot removal and board wipes.
Some notes: I purposefully don't add anthems because it kills my card draw Mentor of the Meek and Skullclamp and makes me look like a bigger threat I feel. However makes Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite a huge pain. I try to find things with cmc 3 or less for synergy with Sun Titan and creatures with toughness 2 or less or cmc of 1 so I can tutor them with creature tutors Recruiter of the Guard or Ranger of Eos.
Artifact Tutors:
-Urza's Saga can fetch our mana rocks Sol Ring, Mana Vault, a land tutor Expedition Map
, some of our best equipment Shadowspear, Skullclamp, Commander's Plate, Stoneforge Masterwork, and even Esper Sentinel.
-Inventors' Fair can fetch all the above in a pinch but also our coveted Blasting Station or altars Ashnod's Altar, Phyrexian Altar. Pyre of Heroes might be good if we need to tutor Grand Abolisher or other creature to ensure we combo out.
-Stoneforge Mystic can fetch Hammer of Nazahn and put it into play for cheap.
-Steelshaper's Gift can fetch more equipment's to protect our commander.
-Enlightened Tutor can fetch either enchantment or artifact. I like to use this to setup my next turn as it goes on top of our library.
