Sideboard

Making the jump into competitive modern with a U/b Merfolk variant.

Mostly splashing black for disruption and to make Dismember a little less painful. Opening hand, the decision ends up being Cursecatcher, Aether Vial or stripping the opponents hand a la Thoughtseize or IoK

Coming down in the late game the hand attack clears an alpha strike backed up with counter magic, and while ripping a late game Vial isn't awesome, leaving it on 1 with another on 2 or 3 gives a nice backup plan to vial in Cursecatcher or just leave the threat up.

Merfolk math is awesome, with 3 four-of lords it's not a problem to beat for 20 by turn 4 or 5. Debating a couple of Coralhelm in the SB, but more concerned with hate and removal going into a new meta. Also tweaking the Mutavault numbers. The mana base does look a bit hobbled, but Spreading Seas can actually help me out here once I either pin down something of theirs, or find out they're in blue. I can Seas my own Gemstone Mine to keep it around, or the City of Brass to kill the pain once I get past casting my Thoughtseize or stabilize with some of the U/B lands.

I kind of want to test Thassa's Rebuff but I feel it will be similar to Spell Syphon in that when it's a blowout, it's super sweet, but if I have no board presence it'sliterally a blank card.

Suggestions are more than welcome, but I am looking for something with a bit more variety than mono-blue fish, so please don't tell me to cut black!
