I like this deck. Is Sarkhan the Mad there for 'draw' tech or removal?
September 7, 2010 9:46 a.m.
@tmurdock - funny you should mention that, I was actually thinking of doing that exact replacement. Reason being is that Bloodghast can come back, so I can sack it to Jinxed Idols.
@Obsidianconspiracy - Sometimes for draw, but also to turn Goblin Guide and Reassembling Skeleton into 5/5 flying dragons, for when my army needs more beef mid to late game.

Yeah think of those two comments in combo... i.e. use Sarkhan to turn bloodghasts into dragons - and then the bloodghasts all come back next turn for use with the idol again
September 8, 2010 1:32 p.m.
Gonna need to grab two more fetch lands if I make the change.
Was also thinking of removing the Bloodchief Ascensions, since they haven't been helping. I'd either add a 4th Percy and Bazaar. Tempted to remove Fling to go back to 4 Mark of Mutiny. Fling might be better off as side board tech when I'm up against decks with little to no creatures.
Thoughts?
September 8, 2010 4:51 p.m.
I like Fling in the deck. Attack with Abyssal Persecutor for 6 then Fling him for another 6 point payload with the added bonus of removing your no-win clause.
Sure there are plenty of ways to get rid of Percy in the deck, but Fling is the most fun.
September 10, 2010 10 p.m.
It's nice, but honestly it's never there when you need it, and doesn't feel vital to the deck at all. I've never been in a situation with Persecutor where I was dying to draw a Fling.
Right now I'm thinking -4 Goblin Guide, -2 Fling, and -2 Bloodchief Ascension.
Will probably fill in +3 Bloodghast, +2 Mark of Mutiny, and +3 Bloodthrone Vampire.

So many new toys with Scars! Going to have to peruse the list to see if there is anything I might use.

i think you'll have to work the sideboard a bit differently
i think you want to make sure your sideboard has more planeswalker hate and focus less on creature hate, considering your deck will take most of their creatures anyways! haha
so maybe throw in some Duress , Memoricide , Vampire Hexmage
September 28, 2010 2:55 p.m.
Yeah, agreed. I actually haven't touched the side board in a while, nor do I actually have it built with cards, so it will be the most subject to change.
Still looking through Scars stuff and trying to figure out what might jive with this deck.

Nice deck. What are you thinking of for the sideboard. I like 3 Duress , 3 Memoricide , 3 Contaminated Ground , 2 Shatter and 4 Ember Hauler as a starting place. Contaminted ground speeds up the clock on ramp decks, Ember hauler is a nice early card that fits the deck theme well when you play really fast decks, and duress and memoricide are solid catch alls that help against control. Shatter doesn't have a true need yet, but probably will in the coming weeks.

After reading the above posts more carefully, I agree that 2 or more Vampire Hexmage s make sense, so I would sub out ember haulers from my above list for any number of hexmages.
October 4, 2010 9:34 p.m.
Yeah, that sounds like a very good start to a sideboard. Fortunately I have all those cards, so I guess it will just be a matter of how our meta develops. Thanks for the input!

I think Consuming Vapors needs a place in this deck - so versatile... you can use on yourself in conjunction with the furnace, to get rid of the persecutor, or to clear the other side if you are playing against big nasty beatdown.
You might consider Necrotic Plague if you find that you need more board clearing. I think you could lose the Viscera Seer s.
October 5, 2010 10:58 a.m.
Consuming Vapors is a nice card and may make its way to my sideboard as a 3 of, but I doubt it will main deck. It only activates furnace if I do it to my own creatures, and even then I'd have to be able to fork up a total cost of 6 mana, a bit of a stretch IMO.
Necrotic Plague is too slow to do any meaningful board clearing, as it only destroys one creature per player turn, and is another card that would only activate furnace with my own creatures, further reducing its effectiveness. Jinxed Idol already serves this purpose for me, while doing 2 damage to my opponent since I have recurring creatures and Bazaar Trader , who can just simply tap and give the artifact back.
I'm also not quite sure you understand my deck if you think I can get rid of Viscera Seer, as he's probably one of the most important cards in the deck. You can play him and instantly start sacking creatures the turn you play him. Amazing for when you Mark of Mutiny an enemy beastie, swing, and then have the option of getting rid of him forever. He also doubles as instantly being able to get rid of my Persecutors. That's a huge deal for 1 mana.

a couple new cards that might work nicely as far as saccing effects go would be Wurmcoil Engine and Perilous Myr . I'm not sure what i'd take out for the myr (if anything) but 1 wurmcoil engine would be awesome, maybe cut out 1 skeleton for it? it's expensive mana-wise, but worth it i think. The Perilous Myr might be a good sideboard choice for decks that remove your graveyard, then you could swap out the skeleton or bloodghast.
October 5, 2010 12:45 p.m.
I really love Wurmcoil Engine , but I just think it would be so hard to pull off in this deck, much in the same way as previously discussed [Consuming Vapors]] with a Furnace Celebration .
Perilous Myr might be something to consider. I really like him, and he's used in two of my buddy's decks to pretty decent effect. He probably could be good sideboard tech for anyone that has graveyard hate, but how much of that will be in the meta remains to be seen. I can chalk him up on the maybeboard.
October 5, 2010 2:18 p.m.
Really digging the Bloodghast so far, that has been the strongest improvement to the deck, giving me so many more sack opportunities.
Haven't gotten many Furnace Celebration out yet, so still curious as to how well it will perform.

Have you considered the Grafted Exoskeleton ? Adds another facet, infect, and gives another easy method of getting rid of your Abyssal Persecutor 's. Simply move it off... it may be a touch slow though.
October 6, 2010 1:45 p.m.
I think Grafted Exoskeleton in an Abyssal Persecutor deck built around infect than around sac-ing would be fantastic, but not here
October 6, 2010 2 p.m.
Feels a bit slow for my deck, plus I don't have any other infect sources to build upon. I don't have a problem getting rid of my Percy's, though.
Started working on the sideboard today in anticipation of this week's tournament, but I really don't know what to throw in there.
I was thinking some mass creature destruction, followed by more direct burn, or deck disruption.

Ok saw the list fell in love, then playtested against valakut. You get murdered by valakut to the face, to your percys, or to all the dead cards in your hand. I have tried cutting the celebration, the mark o mutiny and a skeleton for doomblades, and memoricides. Gets thoses titans, or planeswalkers out of there. Im testing against green eldrazi and U/W control atm ill update you.
