This came up in the last DDD, but the big creature with deathtouch beats a normal big creature, because when they multi block to kill it they will lose every creature blocking it, rather than 1-2 of them.
It's definitely a solid card, I just think we have the top end of our curve weighted with debt and gleam of battle. I'm not against getting more expensive casting cards, but I'd rather have more 2-3 drops, as those tend to be what wins limited games.

As a comment for the gate thing: the reverse drafting order for the second pack means that the group we "stole" the gates from can now get them before us, which might explain why they may be desperate for them.

Since Progenitus disables most of the statistic in this site I thought it may be a good idea to post some custom basic statistics:

thebeardedshuffler: Right, I know that. I'm just saying that I think that scenario will rarely come up, and that most of the time it will end up being effectively a vanilla. I wouldn't getting one as a lower pick, I just think his upside is a bit overrated.

Drake it is. Hopefully some nice picks in the next few packs.

Seems not much of a choice here: Blaze Commando is most likely the way to go.

Yeah. Not the greatest card for our current decklist but still decent, even just as a regular creature. I'll go with the commando.
The only other choice I would consider is crypt incursion if you want to be able to draw it more consistantly but I don't really think that's necessary.

Crypt incursion does have a (very small) chance to rotate.

The commando will be useful with all the sorceries and instants we have to burn our enemies with.

Unfortunately, it only works with Trouble of Toil / Trouble and the Warleader's Helix from the ones we already have.

Still, a token generator with a solid body is pretty cool.

Well obviously the Commando wins this one. Suddenly Punish the Enemy moves up nice and high on our Wish List. We may be able to get a couple. This could be really good.
July 10, 2013 8:30 a.m.
Yeah I guess the Commando has it. Unfortunately there isn't an over-abundance of burn in this format...

Yeah, commando I guess. If nothing else he'll trade favourably, and we may yet pick up some more burn spells.

Well, the choice hereseems pretty obvious: Maw of the Obzedat synergizes well with the red gatekeepers.
The firstblade and maze sentinel as distant second/third picks. We can hope that maybe the Rakdos Cluestone would rotate.
July 11, 2013 4:24 a.m.
Ditto exactly what RussischerZar said.
I'm so glad this didn't come in the same pack as a Boros or Rakdos Guildgate. That would have been a rough decision. A sacrifice engine is very good for us. Our deck just got a little bit more awesome. Come on, gates!

There's a good chance that we will not have any multis. There aren't many in the set. I would think 1 or 2 is the most we could draft and maindeck. Even that would be on the lucky side.
I also don't think deathtouch is very relevant on a big creature which already kills due to its power. I think that card would effectively be a vanilla 4/5 for 6. As I recall, it was a disappointment when we ran it in our last DDD.
Someone has indeed taken a gate already. That is an interesting observation. They are at a premium now.
