The reflections will blind & dazzle our opponents for the win.

So, we got ourselves the chance at another gate. But also the white gatekeepers, which I find pretty good since you essentially get a 4/6 for 4 mana, part of which has vigilance (I looove vigilance). Other valid picks would be the Maze Rusher as an unexpected finisher, Fatal Fumes as semi decent removal, Weapon Surge as a pretty nice combat trick or even Riot Control as a very powerful fog effect that gains us some life.

Discuss!

Good thing we took that gate last round. Everyone who said we wouldn't see another one was probably right. :P

I think the question here is do you think the gatekeeper will wheel. It might not be a horrible idea to grab the gate if we think we'll see the keepers again. I'm not a huge fan of the runners or weapon surge but those aren't too bad of cards.

I think we lucked out seeing another orzhov gate. We've definitely beaten the odds of chance with this. This is great because I think we wanted to have at least 2 of them and now we can do it.

I'm gonna vote for it again on the basis that the odds are now very much against seeing another one and even if we do, it may come at a time when we are faced with a tough choice. And hell, we might even want 3 anyway if we draft some gatekeepers.

After that it's a very close call, but here's how I would probably rank them overall.

  1. gate
  2. fatal fumes
  3. maze rusher
  4. saruli gatekeepers(since it would mean not picking the gate here)

*sunspire, not saruli (obviously)

Maze Rusher is pretty terribad. Fatal fumes is appealing because, removal, but having used that card a lot I can tell you that it's way too situational.

It comes down to Gatekeepers or gates. This being an on colour gate, I'm tempted to say we take it, and grab keepers once we know we have gates to fuel them.

3 out of 10 gates fit our colour schemes, and 3 out of 5 gatekeepers will fit our colours. Therefore the odds on seeing on colour gates are lower than seeing an on colour keeper. If we get at least 4 on colour gates we can aggressively draft keepers from pack 2 somewhere.

I know we're hurting for creatures, but it's still early. I vote for the gate.

Gate. Early mana fixing is one of the best things one can get in draft. I'd be more concerned if we were seeing the B gatekeeper, but I think we can pass on the W for now.

I'll join the gate team. The keeper is decent but everything else is not worth the pick.

Ok, gate is being picked.

In other news, I was told that the tagging issue has been fixed, although I didn't try myself yet.

RussischerZar: tagging issue??

June 28, 2013 1:53 a.m.

RussischerZar says... #14

Yeah the issue that when you tag a card in a comment, the whole comment will show up on the card's page. That's why I told you to not tag cards. :P

Ah. I didn't know why you had told us not to do that.

Slightly changed the formatting on this one.

Our colors seem pretty open in this pack.

Things I could think about picking:

  • Viashino Firstblade - a nice 4 damage nuke slash removal and later a semi good chump blocker
  • Morgue Burst - value strongly depending on our other creatures, seems better in a self-mill-style deck
  • Rakdos Drake - not entirely sure about this one
  • Riot Piker - small aggro creature that works very well with combat tricks but otherwise loses hard to gatekeepers
  • Maze Sentinel - essentially a slightly improved Gatekeeper that could potentially buff other good creatures. did I mention already that I really like vigilance?
  • Boros Cluestone - wait, I don't even

Oh yeah, in case you missed it: feel free to tag cards in here from now on. The issue where the discussion from private decks showed up on the card's link is fixed.

Also: I slightly changed the way I write down the pack for better understandability. Seems that someone valued a gate from this one higher than any of the creatures.

Hmm tricky. Seeing how I'd rather red be a splash than a main colour, to help enable D to the D, I'm appealed to by the Rakdos Drake.

Firstblade is nice but we need to be main red. Obviously not too late to change, but I don't think that's our style.

Morgue Burst is pretty bad.

Riot Piker has the similar problem that red's not a main colour, hopefully, and the always having to attack is a problem. Better in Naya when you have enchantments for him.

The vigilence from Sentinal and his fat ass makes him a very nice blocker, but we don't want to be TOO defensive.. the more damage we can do the less we need for a lethal D to the D.

Rakdos Drake is basically a 2/3 flier for 3. Ignore that he can't block. He's a flier and really isn't meant for blocking in this world of ours. Very efficient. Offensively a better wind drake. I vote Rakdos Drake.

I see us going for a solid three color deck. That being said, the first blade seems the best pick to me. A 2/2 with haste for 3 isn't bad...add the fact that it gets a nice ETB boost and I think it's a solid creature.

Also, it gets better with maze creatures. A potentially added deathtouch and/or vigilance is deadly.

I like the firstblade as well. If he comes down on turn 3 or 4 when the opponent doesn't have any defenders he can deal a pretty serious hit. I like him better than the sentinel because he costs a lot less. Although if we do pick up a lot of multicolor creatures the maze creatures could be good down the line.

Rakdos Drake gets my vote. solid offensive weapon and needs just 1 color.2nd place Viashino Firstblade very solid card but it can't beat a 2/3 flyer.Blue seems a bit crowded on our right...
