First Task: Before we start drafting, there is one thing we need to do: choose a name for our team. Feel free to throw in suggestions.

GoldGhost012 reporting for duty!

Love the Sliver Overlords in the deck btw.

Side note: I didn't know the Midwestern US had been taken over by Europe. Guess I should watch the news more!

October 9, 2013 11:23 a.m.

Also present. And also from the midwest. Wisconsin is that funny shaped place next to France, right?

October 9, 2013 11:58 a.m.

Is the general makeup of our team Europe + Midwest US? We could use that in our name. Or just go weird with it.

RussischerZar reporting for duty!

As teamleader in the last DDD, I can definitely share some experience if you want/need. I also have a MTGO account (Montis) that we could use to playtest after the deck is constructed. If necessary I could even provide a TS3 server if we want to get together to chat about general direction of the draft etc.

We used Progenitus last time instead of the Sliver Overlord btw :P

As team name I suggest:
The Theros Heros

Oh yeah, I live in Dublin but I'm originally from Germany, in case anyone cares :P

If we go Grixis colors we could call ourselves Now I Am Become Bolas, Destroyer of Gods.

I bet CrazyKaley would love it.

Sliver Overlord is definitely better than Progenitus. Who has time to cost Progenitus's mana cost?

October 9, 2013 12:16 p.m.

I'm a fan of Atogatog , personally.

We could also use an absinthe pun in our name. Everybody loves bad puns.

So, are we already deciding on colors?
I'm not sure how viable a 3 color deck is without sufficient mana-fixing i.e. guildgates and cluestones. The best mana fixing is green in Sylvan Caryatid and colorless but slow in the Opaline Unicorn and very slow in Burnished Hart.

In the pre-release I've quite successfully run a red/black aggressive minotaur deck, although I guess sealed is quite a bit different from draft, which I do a lot less.

I think I would rather wait on the cards we're passed first and decide from there, what do you think?

October 9, 2013 12:39 p.m.

It's always a bad idea to pick draft colors before even seeing the cards. Draft is a take-it-as-you-get-it format. You gotta roll with the punches.

Also, Burnished Hart is crazy good. So strong.

Waiting seems good. It's what we did last time, and it worked out fine. But it's not unwise to plan for what we may want to pick.

Some titles I came up with:

Ragnarok- No, Wait, Wrong Culture

The Devout Clans of Sedge Scorpion

Power From the Heavens

Olympus Has Fallen

The Almighty God Cards

WMG (Weapons of Mass God-struction)

I realize these are a bit stupid, but they're mostly for the laughs.

"(Egyptian) God Cards" would be a fun name.

GoldGhost012 says... #15

It would be funny if we called ourselves that and we drafted zero Gods.

Groupname suggestion: "InsertDeckNameHere"

Picking colors in advance is something you never want to do in a draft. We need to see a few packs to decide. The color theme can sometimes remain unclear throughout the entire pack one. So, let's see what we open, and then discuss it.

Thumbs up for "InsertDeckNameHere". It's the exact kind of humor I like. Other names that come to my mind: "The Godforsaken", or more or less funny suggestion: "Your Ad Could Have Been Here".

Another one I just thought of...

Theros Agnostics

I like "InsertGroupNameHere". Then we (well, you) can pilot "InsertDeckNameHere".

Team name suggestions so far:

The Theros Heros (by RussischerZar) - Sounds like something every other team will come up with too. Is the "e" in "heroes" omitted on purpose, or is it a typo?

Now I Am Become Bolas, Destroyer of Gods (by GoldGhost012) - don't know aboout this one, seems too long and will be out of place most likely.

Ragnarok... No Wait, Wrong Culture (same) - Quite long but I like it. Good jokes are good.

The Devout Clans of Sedge Scorpion (same) - Long and weird in my opinion.

Power From the Heavens (same) - Meh, in my opinion. Lacks the spark the other suggestions have.

Olympus Has Fallen (same) - Not bad, present perfect seems a bit odd. How about "Olympus Will Fall"? I know there is no Olympus on Theros, but who cares.

The Almighty God Cards (same) - I don't like this one very much.

WMG (Weapons of Mass God-struction) (same) - This one is good. We could leave the parentheses out and let everyone else wonder what the last letter means.

InsertDeckNameHere (by VRonin) - I like it, though it seems a bit like we couldn't come up with anything better. I don't know if we want to make this kind of impression. Also, we're deciding on a team name, not the deck name. InsertTeamNameHere anybody? :-)

The Godforsaken (by humble me) - No comments on my own suggestion.

Your Ad Could Have Been Here (same) - This was actually for laughs, I didn't mean it seriously.

Theros Agnostics (by Supersun) - Not bad in my opinion. It also inspired another suggestion of mine. See below.

Schrodinger's Gods (by me) - Just a little half fun, half serious suggestion inspired by Supersun's above suggestion.

Please try and vote for a name you like, if you can. Or, suggest another one. We need to have decided on it by Sunday though.

RussischerZar says... #22

the e was omitted on purpose since Theros picked apart spells The Heros (kind of, see color coding in my post) :P

October 10, 2013 5:29 a.m.

Supersun says... #23

(FYI Olympus Has Fallen is the name of a movie that was released earlier this year in case you missed that.

Also, Heros is not the plural for a group of courageous men.
...It's the plural of a sandwich.)

After we pick our name, if we have time, can we also briefly discuss what some notable key features of a 3xTheros draft will be and what some of the cards to look out for, especially on the common and uncommon level?

Having a brief discussion about things like that I imagine will greatly improve our performance.

Also, another group name idea, going off of GG12s.

Ragnapocalgeddon, or whatever it's called in Theros.

Ragnapocalgeddon, for short.

"Inventing random names is easy. Inventing the right name, however, can try the patience of even an elf." -Sapphira, Brisingr

Just wanted to point that out. We wouldn't want to rush into a name with almost no debate on it just to end up hating it later. Not to mention it can be good debate practice for when we draft.
