There's one more card in this pack that has even more potential to be mainboarded.

+1 Felhide Minotaur

I'm not going to miss any other card in this pack, but if we get either a Kragma Warcaller or a Rageblood Shaman I'll be slapping myself for taking something else in this pack over the minotaur, and as far as we can tell, minotaurs are open and it just wouldn't be a Theros draft without at least one minotaur guy at the table.

Besides, it seems like black may have opened up. Depending on what we are getting passed in future packs it could be worth sliding that direction if there's enough of an incentive to move that way (like a Keepsake Gorgon or two).

If we don't use the Minotaur then I'm not exactly going to miss any of the other cards in this pack.

Fair enough. Felhide Minotaur is a reasonable pick too. And I won't miss any of the other cards in this pack either. The fact that black seems to have opened up a bit is worth considering. I'll think on it some more.

Why the hell not?

+1 Fellhide Minotaur

We can probably still splash blue or white if we decide to run minotaurs. And honestly, if we pick this and don't play it, so what? It's a vanilla 2/3.

Although if we run minotaurs, we need at least 1 Rageblood Shaman to appear. We'll be a bit lackluster without it.

The more I think about it, the more I like it. I'm actually gonna change my vote to Felhide Minotaur, especially because we have a chance to wheel one in the next pack too.

+1 Felhide Minotaur

I'm not sure where the votes are, but I've never had serious issues with big butt creatures. Especially in our colors.

+1 Artisan

Ok guys, time is running short. We need other people's opinions fast.

It's not a terrible creature. It's just a creature that when it's time to start chopping cards it's the first to go.

The card is in our colors, yes, but that's only relevant if the card is going to make the cut into our deck. I just don't think Artisan would make the final cut, and would in essence just sit in our sideboard without a purpose. It's not a terrible card by any means, it just isn't a good card, and atm we have some pretty devastating things competing around his CMC level.

I mean when it comes down to it, you have to ask yourself. If Artisan really worth running over any of the other 4-6 cmc cards we currently have and will likely get in the future? ...Not really.

This is why I'm voting Minotaur over Artisan, because I just don't see it making the deck at this point with what we have considering it's already competing with SGR, Armored Titan, Borderland Minotaur, and Heliod's Emissary, and we are still only in the first pack.

October 27, 2013 2:02 a.m.

I won't be upset with the minotaur by any means; the remaining cards in this pack are pretty meh either way.

I just don't think we should take the minotaur based on our primary reasoning of "hey, maybe we can be minotaur guy".

I'm just going by my greaT rules

When drafting (T)rash it's either Sideboard, Hate, or Possibly Useful if you get the correct cards in the draft.

Artisan doesn't really meet any of those.

Minotaur is at least situationally useful depending on what we draft.

And like Ab mentioned, we have a good chance of getting another one in the next pack, and in the pack after that there's a chance we can get the black harpy. Why is that important? Because if we get those then they ALSO become sideboard cards. If a deck is too fast for us, we can then remove our slower cards and color and swap in black with those 3 drops.

Time. I count 3-2 Minotaur, that's the pick.

Time's run up. Minotaur won this vote.

Supersun says... #13

Ehh, this one is harder pick then last time.

5/3 is a lot better then 3/5 imo.

The ability isn't super relevant (though it can destroy the Rare God Artifacts).

I'll have to think about this one. Disregarding color the Minotaur is still a more usable card, but we do have color to think about.

Biggest question is if we grab the 5/3 are we going to realistically run it (especially since there are better 5cmc creatures in the format). Do we need more 4-6 cmc creatures at this point or are we in a good position atm and can be pickier with our selection for future packs.

October 27, 2013 3:38 a.m.

Never underestimate 5 power in Limited formats. And killing off a god weapon could be one of the best things you can do in the format. Those things are everywhere and they all wreck face. It's narrow, but it's powerful.

The minotaur is a little more efficient and plenty cheaper, though. And if we get super lucky we could, in fact, turn into Minotaur Guy.

Asphodel Wanderer is a really good defensive pick, who can easily turn into a threat if we start loading him up with Bestow. Don't overlook him.

My vote's still undecided.

Supersun says... #15

5 Power is a lot, but at the same time Ill-Tempered Cyclops is a common and murders the Satyr in efficiency.

Comes down again of how many 4-6 drops do we want in our deck and how many more decent ones we are going to be able to grab because in regards to 4-6 drops the Satyr will probably be the first pushed from he deck.

The Celebrants can somewhat function as creature removal. Counting the 3/3 Golem token produced by the Hammer of Purphoros, there are 8 possible creature targets for the destruction, 7 that can be destroyed because Colossus of Akros is indestructible. Then there are the 5 weapons and other annoying things like Prowler's Helm and Pyxis of Pandemonium.

I'll tentatively +1 Wild Celebrants.

October 27, 2013 11:36 a.m.

Absinthman says... #17

I think of Wild Celebrants mainly as a sideboard card against the weapons. It hits other stuff, true, but none that we are likely to see on the other side, or that our opponent wouldn't have made use of already by turn 5 (Burnished Hart, Unicorn of Paradise or what's that damn card called ayway...). 5/3 is indeed a big incentive here, but as has already been said, we'll want to do even better things with our turn 5 play. Also, these guys really tend to come late so I'm almost certain we'll see some more of these.

Felhide Minotaur could be quite useful if, as it now seems, black opens up. This has been quite a strange pack 1. We have strong cards but no direction yet. This might be in our favor as we're still in the first pack, but we'll definitely need to settle on something early in pack 2. And for now, my vote goes for:

+1 Felhide Minotaur

I've never been the Minotaur Guy. I didn't even know that was a thing. Maybe it will happen, heh.

October 27, 2013 5:20 p.m.

+1 Minotaur

for my vote. Because it's cheap.

Absinthman says... #23

Well, I guess we should seriously consider that going black might be an option. I mean some people to our right found Yoked Ox a better option than the Harpy... I mean, even if you aren't black, the Harpy is clearly the strongest card in this pack... Someone's raping my brains here.

I say, let's stay open and pick the Harpy in case we see that pack 2 supports more aggressive route for us. We've already discussed the Artisan two picks ago and my opinion on it hasn't changed.

+1 Blood-Toll Harpy

October 28, 2013 3:32 a.m.

Absinthman says... #24

An insteresting fact about this pack is that when we passed it earlier, the Harpy was the only black card in there. So this means that whoever at this pod is drafting black (an presumably someone does), they had to take a card for their other color from this pack before it returned to us. The only possibilities I see here is green (Leafcrown Dryad or maybe Sedge Scorpion) or red (Borderland Minotaur or Titan's Strength). None of the white picks is better than the Harpy I think. So we're possibly looking at someone being B/R or B/G here. That however doesn't diminish the fact that black seems a lot more open than we initially thought.

October 28, 2013 5:51 a.m.

Supersun says... #25

Something important to note if that both the Borderland Minotaur and the Titan's Strength got taken so someone might have also got the idea to move into red, especially since a Spearpoint Oread, and a Cerebus made it to them.

That being said. Clearly no one is black to our right, and they are heavy white. You don't draft an ox and a 2/2 bear over a 2/1 flyer unless you have no intentions at all of going black. So at least 2 people at the table are fairly committed to white as anyone not white or black would hatedraft the bird. Important info., but it lends itself to an important question. How did we get an Onslaught and an Emissary if they are picking those white cards so late? Is white so open to their rights that they moved into it? The only thing I can see is that their primary color got so choked that they were forced to move into the color that they seemed best.

I would assume there's at least one other drafter at the table that is hitting black and that's the person who got 2 Sentry of the Underworld (and a few Scholars).

+1 Blood-Toll Harpy

We don't have enough information about what colors we are running yet and with these 3 additions it gives us the decent ability to use black. We won't regret these picks if we open the second pack and we land a black bomb. If we don't I'm not going to miss what we are passing. We've had a pretty flexible pack 1 with us consistently drafting cards far more powerful then the average pick, but we aren't going to be able to run everything. We'll have to wait for pack 2 to see what it will bring us before we lock down our colors since so far we haven't gotten any cards so strong that it will determine what colors we will run.
