Whilst hardly ideal I agree with the above comments. What a lousy pack.

Guardians of Meletis is our only choice. Unless we wanted the foil just to have a foil.

Hi guys. Next pack is up.
+1 Spark Jolt for sideboard against Vaporkin and Sedge Scorpions.

Spark Jolt can also potentially trigger heroic on the Phalanx Leader (no other workable Heroics yet) and/or enable Flamespeaker Adept. Seems legit.
Just to stir the talk a bit: what do you think of Crackling Triton?
November 8, 2013 5:02 a.m.
I'm a little surprised someone actually took the Akroan Crusader over Spark Jolt.
Good chance that this could be inferring that someone else at the table is planning on running aggro as well since I would think that normally spark would be a better splash card then Akroan, and Akroan isn't exactly hate material.
It's not a terrible card to mainboard either since not only can it smack for 1 with a scry it can also safely trigger a heroic on most of your monsters with a scry which both of those things combined into one card isn't a bad package. Mind you it'll be the first card cut from the deck if it's competing with other combat tricks/heroic enablers, but still mainboardable enough if you don't have enough. Even then it's a good sideboard against any deck that wants to abuse 1 toughness creatures like Phalanx Leader or Hoplite that need a quick answer before they pump out of control.

I thought about Cracking Triton for a second and using him as a 6cmc 2 burn spell, then I decided that wasn't even worth posting about since 1 damage is not worth a 5 mana increase.
Something else important to think about. Why did Crusader make it to us 2 picks ago while Crusader didn't make it to us now. Did a group want it, but there was a creature in pick 7 that warranted the pick over Crusader? Are they really that overloaded with non creatures that they wanted the crusader over the Jolt?

Well, at first the Crackling Triton is a 2/3 body for 3 which is the same as the Felhide Minotaur, only in blue. If you absolutely need to, you can then use the sac ability in a subsequent turn. It also gives some reach to an extend. I know it's not the best ability in the world, but the base creature is basically a concession between a bear and an ogre with an ability that can come in useful at some point. I'm not saying it's a powerful creature, but neither is Spark Jolt. Both are rather situational but the Triton at least has a solid body attached to the situational ability.
I guess we're likely to see at least one other of them anyway.
November 8, 2013 5:27 a.m.
Only issue is that with the mana base I'm thinking of that we will ultimately be running that we aren't going reliably see an island until turn 6 where we need to be making MUCH more impactful plays then playing a 2/3 body or shocking for 2.
I would instantly snatch up that Triton if we were playing RUw, but the white early game that came our way just tended to be stronger so we are likely going to run RWu instead.

It's probably the best pick. It's still a pretty narrow card, though.

I don't see many clear votes. Is Spark Jolt the pick?
November 8, 2013 6:38 p.m.
It's actually a pretty flexible card with it dealing 1 damage, scrying, and able to trigger heroic in a fairly safe manner on your own monsters.
+1 Spark Jolt.
We may not run it, but even then it's a good situational sideboard card especially if we are against a really slow deck and need to make our deck faster to steal the game from under our opponents.

I guess the only card that has a potential for inclusion is Silent Artisan, unless we want to hate something like the Artisan's Sorrow here. It hits our Emissaries pretty hard and since nobody is apparently RG, it's probably a better hate than Destructive Revelry.

Silent Artisan has a big butt but is otherwise vanilla and meh.
Breaching Hippocamp is in our (current) splash color, but provides a lot of utility at instant speed.
Both are worth discussing.

Hippocamp is indeed in our splash color, but it will not make the cut provided what it's currently competing with. I think we will want to splash three cards at most, and those will be SGR, Griptide and Triton Tactics.

Might as well hatedraft of sorts. Not like there's any mainboardable materiel here. +1 Artisan's Sorrow

Don't forget that a splash color now could turn into a main color later if we get some juicy stuff.

If you want to hatedraft the Horse Fish is the best option imo.
Unless they switched we know from pack 1 that the people we are passing to were heavy blue. If I'm correct the main green drafters are the people we are currently receiving from.
I think the correct choice is to hatedraft the fish and left the next person over hate draft the artifact removal since I don't think that person is running green from what we saw in pack 1 (though to be fair he didn't make a ton of sense either).
Supersun says... #1
2 black cards, 2 white cards, 3 blue cards, 1 green card, and 0 red cards were drafted in this pack.
I really don't think we have a lot to worry about from a RG enchantment/artifact removal as red so far has been a horribly under drafted color and green probably isn't that much better. The only people we would have to worry about are the ones that are already running either red or green in their deck already and I wouldn't be surprised if that at most 2 other people at the table just to hate something that MIGHT affect our deck.
I'd rather sideboard something that will be useful against a deck that we are very likely going to see in some form (Someone got those rider's from pack one so they are probably already thinking about some form of earlier game aggro).
