(my 'no, probably not' was aimed at Absinthman's comment :P)

We are at the point where we have to ask ourselves if any of these cards will go straight into the mainboard.

The Satyr is quick and on-color, but if there's a chance that we won't even run it in our deck then we also need to consider hate drafting the Shipwreck Singer. Don't be fooled by its small size; Shipwreck Singer can absolutely destroy you.

Not saying that hating her is the correct or best play, just throwing it out as a thought.

Based on what we passed to the left in pack 1, I don't think the next two teams to our left are in UB, so the Singer will not help them in any way. And seeing what is left in this pack leads me to believe that they will be considering hatedrafting the singer too. It might be better to pick a playable and let them hate it instead of us.

That was my thought exactly, Absinthman.

It is still a valid point though, ,NobodyPicksBulbasaur, but I don't think we should expect to get more 2-drops, so that's another thing pro for the Rambler.

I'll hold off on voting for now, but if I haven't chimed in before the pick is due, I'll be voting for

We've probably passed the point of finding Lightning Strikes, Magma Jets, and Titan's Strength. Maybe. Probably.

Satyr Rambler is an okay 2-drop blocker, especially since that's probably all it'd be used for. And with Deathbellow Raider attacking every turn, he can trade with everything that the Raider can trade with too.

+1 Satyr Rambler

Who mainboards Spark Jolt anyway?

Remember, this is pack 8.

From here on out we will see no more new cards, and this is our last chance to take a bear.

We don't need to hate the Shipwreck. We are passing it to the people that gave us a pick 6 Griptide lol.

Take a look at the cards that are realistically going to table back to us in the packs we have already seen. How many of those cards are going to be better then an additional low drop in our deck (adding this low drop to the deck increases the odds of us having 2 2-3 cmc creatures in hand by turn 3 from 40% to 50%). The only ones I could see us adding is possibly the Dragon's Mantle, which would probably end up replacing TT anyway, or the Borderland Minotaur, which I might actually cut Crusader over the Satyr for.

We are going to have some atrocious cards tabling back to us. This is for all intents and purposes the last pick we are going to get in this draft of anything remotely usable. An extra bear will help us quite a bit and nothing in this pack is worth hating that the people to our left won't probably hate since it's clear that they aren't running blue (Unless they feel like picking up the battle priest instead :/).

It's safe to say that Bears are extremely important in this format, but not because they're good.

Bears are good in this format because of the Bestow mechanic and strong Heroic-centric spells, the former of which which we only have one instance of.

Basically, we can't put too much stock in a bunch of low drops without the proper support. They'll get outclassed quickly. Once they hit chump block mode we're in trouble.

Well, remember, bestow generally starts around 6 mana. We have our own 6 mana plays too.

Bears on curve sorta fill a dual purpose in our deck. They apply early game damage while at the same time remain on the field to help swing for game when we drop an SGR or monster an Armored Titan.

Our deck is not a deck we want competing for late game. We want to finish promptly turn 6-7 before the real shenanigans start rolling out. Our deck does not have the raw power to compete with stuff like Monster Asps. We just ideally have the curve and speed to run under those decks instead.

As much as I wouldn't be opposed to that Last Breath I think we REALLY need to take that land. Our deck needs as much fixing as it can get and the card will 100% make our main deck without being forced to cut something while the Last Breath, while definitely usable, will definitely force us to cut something whenever we want to use it.

At this point I think fixing in general will dramatically increase our win rate over nearly anything else. Our deck is greedy and anything to help give us that island/second mountain/second plains when we need it is extremely helpful.

RussischerZar says... #13

Unknown Shores I guess. Although it might actually slow our deck down at times, if we draw e.g. island, plains, unknown shores and a mountain, we'll only have double red for one less.

November 21, 2013 6:33 a.m.

Supersun says... #14

Yeah, in my test deck I cut a plains for it. We can't use it for the majority of our double red casts on curve unfortunately, but our double white (Phalanx Leader) will likely never be cast on curve, and casting Phalanx Leader for 3 isn't a huge deal.

Ideally we'd never have to use the Shores to tap for red, but it's great when we need our second white or blue. The rest of the time we can just tap it for colorless.

I bet we could catch at least one opponent with their pants down with Shores + Mountain open to tap both and play Triton lol.

Supersun says... #16

...interesting, both the mythic and betrayal got taken.

Is there a second person at the table in red or did someone make the mistake of thinking red was open and attempt to move into it only to get strangled.

November 21, 2013 7:27 a.m.

Absinthman says... #17

Betrayal might just have been hate drafted. Someone might be trying to protect their fatties from getting stolen.

November 21, 2013 7:41 a.m.

Supersun says... #18

They hate Betrayal but leave Hemlock?

That seems a bit silly, but then again, we haven't exactly been very bashful about being red to our right lol.

November 21, 2013 8:07 a.m.

Absinthman says... #19

I don't see in those people's heads of course. But Hemlock might be less scarier to someone running a Centaur Battle-Master and a few Nylea's Emissaries. I once died to Portent when my opponent stole this 9/9 trample guy from me. Killing it wouldn't be nearly as impactful.

By the way. We haven't settled on whether I can remove the Progeniti from our board. I think we can safely dump them now. Hm?

I removed from the 3xDGM draft after all picks had been done.
