I recently got back into Magic and began putting together a new red/black deck, which ended up taking a sharp turn towards tribal vampires. Initially I ended up with Vampiric Oppressor, which contained some neat ideas but overall wasn't cohesive and lacked focus. With the intent of speeding things up a bit and a trend towards acquiring lower CMC creatures, as well as looking for a way to trim the fat and add some removal, I stumbled upon What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse by YamishiTheWickedOne, which has now become direct inspiration for this deck. The name of my deck is sort of a nod towards
Lord of Lineage
, born through the presence of his blood-sucking companions.
The main difference here (for better or for worse) is that I have opted for less one-drop creatures in the omission of Vampire Lacerator, making space for Bloodline Keeper
and Drana, Liberator of Malakir.
Bloodline Keeper
is an insurance policy in that his generated tokens can quickly become a threat in themselves with the buffs provided by Vampire Nocturnus, Stromkirk Captain, as well as himself when transformed; they can also be used as throw-away blockers along side any tokens generated by Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet.
Although Drana, Liberator of Malakir slightly conflicts with Stromkirk Captain, I feel she still has a place here, especially if tokens are present. (She'll also have to learn to forgive Kalitas for his treachery for the time being, as it wouldn't be good for moral to see them trying to kill each other on the battlefield.)
Cavern of Souls, not much needs to be said here. While it does prevent some situational castings of Lightning Bolt and maybe even Terminate, the added bonus of tapping it for or to cast uncounterable vampires should balance things out.
As always, feedback is both encouraged and appreciated.
