dude id definitely 4x on the Gnaw to the Bone . having four in the deck means ur constalty gaining large numbers of life, to make up for the slowness of a typical self mill. id choose card:Ranger's Path mainly bc its a lot cheaper, and with flash, and it can save you a creature. and finally, throw some Artful Dodge in there to get some ten damage in with Ghoultree :P or to protect a cage breaker from dying in an attack

ThEdUnCeCaP, 4x Gnaw to the Bone really isn't necessary. I don't know when I would ever need 100 life, which I could (in an extreme case) get with just 2 of them. I have another in the sideboard for when I think I need it, but for the most part, 1 is plenty.
I assume you meant card:Tracker's Instincts instead of card:Ranger's Path?
And Artful Dodge could be useful, but my main win cons come from Splinterfright 's trample and Kessig Cagebreakers ' tokens. It might be nice, but I'm not sure I really have room.

Actually, I think he though card:Ranger's Guile, which is nice, but not necessary.
I recommend -2 Forbidden Alchemy +2 card:Tracker's Instincts. I was using alchemies in my self-mill at first too, but I was pulling creatures with it most of time, and instincts are much more cheaper to play, which often leads to much more swift gameplay.
I like your deck, mostly because I know how it's funny to play with a self-mill! :) +1

maybe. i mean imo a card so powerful personally id want 4 of them! it gains you a boatload of life. the more hte better honestly. especially necesary bc self mill is slow, if you dont happen to get 1 preferably 2 or 3 your screwed. card:Tracker's Instincts is what i meant. it plays for 2, meaning you can get a Splinterfright out on t3 wihtout having to wait.you can also flash it the turn after, meaning you can have the 10 cards in the grave bc of the Splinterfright s ability when you swing, and two more creatures in your hand. only hurting yourself if you dont. and i even had Artful Dodge in mind for the cagebrakers as well, bc something wiht only 4 toughness could be killed when it attacks by a blocker etc. throwing 2 in there could only help. especially when they have flashback ;P your only

Would there be any room for a Sands of Delirium in there?

Docilekhan484, I definitely thought about using Sands of Delirium instead of Codex Shredder .But the thing is, in this deck, I usually end up USING all of my mana to get stuff onto the field, and what ever extra I have I hold on to to use Syncopate if I need it. Plus, Codex Shredder gives me the opportunity to pull cards out of my grave if I need them. I don't use its pulling effect often, but when I do, I'm glad I had it.
It's definitely a big maybe though.

card:Ghoulcaller's Bell over the shredder? Mill both players at once. Psychic Spiral for when they inevitably try to exile your graveyard, then you're like 'LOL nope'. Plus it means you can use stuff from their graveyard as ammo for Deathrite rather than your own

Oh yeah, one last thing... Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord , just for when you feel like chucking that Ghoultree at someone's face.

awkwardraisin some good suggestions. I would go with card:Ghoulcaller's Bell, but what I like about Codex Shredder is the fetch ability, so I can retrieve something like Garruk Relentless Flip should I mill him.
Psychic Spiral isn't really that good to use against the graveyard hate, I don't think. It's a nice win condition, but if they have Rest in Peace , Psychic Spiral would make no difference at all, because nothing is still going to be landing in my grave.
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord is really nice, but I'm not sure what I would take out in exchange for him, and his specific cost would be hard for me to pull off unless I just plain added more black.

Hmm yeah that is true, Rest in peace is a horribly good card for it's cost versus graveyard decks, well you could run Abrupt Decay as sideboard in exchange for Bramblecrush it is cheaper to cast and most of the nasty enchantments/artifacts/aggro creatures have a low cmc, or you could use Golgari Charm . And for extra graveyard fishing Treasured Find . I'm aware most of my suggestions require black but you have most of the good blue cards required for this deck.
Jarad is worth his specific mana cost in this deck I reckon, so if you were to put more black in I'd probably remove the acidic slime, thats a personal preference cause I think that slime is a bit slow. Very, very useful however.
When all is said and done I think the deck is solid as is, my suggestions are if you feel that a little more black is required.

No Laboratory Maniac ? Perfect alt win-con for a self mill deck.

Saljen points to sideboard
I have him there for use against mill decks. Otherwise this deck doesn't QUITE mill enough for it to be useful, really.

I built a self mill deck recently that has done very well. And there are 2 cards that can make the deck much more consistent and powerful
The first is key, Chronic Flooding . Its consistent self mill that you can choose to use or not. Its the only mill spell you really need. My deck runs it and 3 forbidden alchemy and thats al. It takes nothing to make my frights and wurms 8/8'.
Running chronic flood allows you to drop things like skaab and mulch. Since its repeatable and mills a decent amount (especially in mulitples. get 2 on a single land and you'll mill your deck fast. but can stop anytime.)
The other card is more of an optional thing and an alternate wincon. but it can(and requently does) win games outright as a 2-3 of. Psychic Spiral . As I said, chronic flooding can mill your deck faster than you would expect. If your grave is as large or larger than an opponents, this card instantly wins the game for you. Sure it kills your creatures but its instant speed. you can cast on their upkeep before draw or in response to a draw spell (sphinx revelation especially) and you win on the spot. Its a wincon against control decks.

aloehart199 Thanks for the input!
Chronic Flooding is one that I am considering over Dream Twist . It does the same thing for the flashback cost of Dream Twist , but you can continue to use it every turn. However, one reason that I really enjoy Dream Twist is because it has a flashback cost, so I can use it if it gets milled.
I've also given Psychic Spiral some consideration, but I'm unsure what to take out to make room for it.
I'll probably do some more playtesting involving those though.

Ah, that is a really good point about using Psychic Spiral on myself. I didn't even think about that.
Haha no more Deranged Assistant (at this point) because I was keeping room for the bigger and the brighter. Love the card though.
The main reason I'm resistant to using Mirror-Mad is becuase I already have several 5-cost cards, and he would drive up the average CMC. I suppose since I now added Deathrite Shaman (and with that other Assistant) it wouldn't be so bad, but I'm still kind of "meh."
Thanks for the feedback though. :3
