Deadly Blade of the Nature

Commander / EDH Aggro Budget Mono-Green Tempo

Rossa

Maybeboard

It is a duel deck, so don't play it in Multiplayer game. It is very simple, following Green color's philosophy. If you have a problem, solve it with might!

The strategy comes from the commander itself. Put 3 power to play before turn 4 allowing Surrak to use his ability. You can manage it by typical Green mana sources: Arbor Elf, Beastcaller Savant, Boreal Druid, Elvish Mystic. An other way to complete the mission is by equipment cards: Grafted Wargear, Hero's Blade.Or by using some very funny Green creatures: Manaplasm , Primal Forcemage , Managorger Hydra. Let's say a word about Duskwatch Recruiter  . It is a very useful card in this deck, since he allows Surrak to come to play in turn 3 and attack immediately. (If Duskwatch Recruiter can transform) In the game late he also can be used as a potential creature card drawer which is essential in this deck. Note, in this deck you can get power from all possible sources! Creatures, Artifacts, Enchantment cards they all can help you - even lands can grant you extra power like Llanowar Reborn, Oran-Rief, the Vastwood, Opal Palace. It is really important, since it is vital to have continuously at least 8 power on the battlefield on your side.

There is one answer in this deck for all of the questions, and this is: Attack! However there is a Golden Rule. If Surrak is on the table send him to battle, but only in that case if it is reasonable. Killing him without damaging the opponent is not a good deal, since there are tons of Power pumper cards in the deck with which few attacks can be enough to win the game. In other words, send Surrak to a lethal battle only in that case if there will be enough other creatures on the table to continue attacking in the next turns.

You can find some useful stuffs to make your attack deadlier:Become Immense, Increasing Savagery,Primal Bellow, Garruk Wildspeaker. The usual finishers: Craterhoof Behemoth, Pathbreaker Ibex, Cultivator of Blades, Overwhelming Stampede, Triumph of the Hordes. (Cards which count the power of a creature and provide extra power to others based upon this are really good in this deck, since there are many ways to pump up the power. For example Cultivator of Blades and Grafted Wargear or Pathbreaker Ibex and Wolfir Silverheart are really useful combos.

Finally, let's say some words about other important cards in the deck!

  • Kalonian Hydra: Want a fatty? She is. For the first attack (hopefully with haste) she is 8/8, but for the second she becomes 16/16. Nice. Add her an Increasing Savagery and she will erase the battlefield within a turn.
  • Manglehorn: It is wonderful to start playing with Llanowar Elves and Manglehorn. This nice beast can really slow down the opponent (Sol ring comes to play tapped, etc.) and his power is really useful to activate Surrak's haste.
  • Polukranos, World Eater: Reliable little monster. He can attack with Surrak in turn 3-4, and eat the smaller blocking creature of the opponent for a breakfast.
  • Spawnwrithe: With haste he is really funny, since he can multiply himself. It is rather annoying than dangerous for the first time, but for the third... Add him some power pumpers to help him cloning himself.
  • Tireless Tracker: Extremely useful card. Power 3 is fine for Surrak, card draw is always good and built in power pumper ability.
  • Eldritch Evolution: Cheap creature search by sacrificing a little creature with enters the battlefield ability. Would not you sacrifice Reclamation Sage to have Kalonian Hydra on the battlefield with haste...?
  • Nissa, Vital Force: It is never bad to have a 5/5 fatty without mana in your attack group.

Don't underestimate Surrak, the Hunt Caller ! In a duel haste is a very cool ability which can be real deadly by adding it to a ferocious green monster.

Enjoy the deck!
