Yeah, that leyline, unlike some for the other colors, is actually an extremely viable one, either draw hand or hard cast, and it would shut us down, along with Jund and RDW, so you know they will use it. The Baloth is just the icing on the cake.
So with that said, once M10/Alara rotates, there goes Hippy, Nyxathid, Burning Inquiry, Blightning, and Terminate. Pretty much the foundations of this deck.
Probably going to shelve discard in a month or two, as well as my RDW black splash deck. Might make something green, seems to be what WotC wants us to do.

Finally played with the M11 variant of this deck, updated it now to the list I am currently running. Played two playsets against an RDW deck, feeling like I'm going to trim down a Burning Inquiry as I got it way more than I a Liliana's Caress.
Liking the combo, though. Got a kill with it. Tempted to add a couple flings to help get rid of my Persecutors, because I can't seem to draw enough creature removal and If I do get any, it's almost a must use.

Loving how this is playing so far. Liliana's Caress and Burning Inquiry are just plain brutal.

this deck has changed so much since its first posting...lol
pretty fun deck and with the right draws surprisingly speedy. I was impressed :D

Extremely tempted to remove my last two Duress , and add +2 Fling .
The single mana discard cards are nice, but rarely do they go towards my Quest or Liliana's Caress. Mostly good for seeing my opponent's hand on turn 1, and that's where I think Inquisition of Kozilek is better since I can remove anything that I think will be a threat in the next 3 turns, including creatures.
July 22, 2010 9:46 a.m.
I'd do it. Fling is 6 direct damage, and winning the game. And you've got the exact same theory on the 1 drop discards as me, inquisition is better for the t1 usage.
July 22, 2010 5:01 p.m.
Done, making that change and leaving for a tourney in 30 mins. Going to pick up 3 more Dragonskulls since they are dirt cheap at one of my stores now ($3/ea).
July 25, 2010 2:24 p.m.
Well, that went poorly. Fling was completely useless, even though it sounded good in theory. I also got screwed by drawing too many Lavaclaw Reaches when I needed untapped mana. Quest for the Nihil Stone was also useless, again.
Went 1-2, 3-5 overall.
July 25, 2010 9:55 p.m.
Made some for sure changes. Still contemplating where to stick a Temple Bell , if it can or even needs to be done. Maybe even [[Sign in Blood]. I could do that on turn 5 with a Caress out, then Blightning for a reliable total of 9 damage. Should be dead by then.

Has been playing much better lately. Finally got revenge on that Knight deck that kicked my ass.
July 29, 2010 11:02 a.m.
And play better it definitely has. Went 3-1 in the latest tournament, overall 7-1.
Went 2-1 against devastating red, 2-0 against a goblin deck, 2-0 against a R/G/U Titan/Destructive Force ramp deck, and then in the top 4 game went 1-2 against the R/G/U deck.
Was only mana screwed twice, both times resulting in near losses. I think one more Dragonskull in place of a swamp, and I'm there.
August 1, 2010 8:53 p.m.
Lately I've been contemplating +2 Reverberate , -1 Blightning , -1 Consuming Vapors , -1 Swamp , +1 Dragonskull Summit .
Would be nice when I have 4 mana open, to have a Terminate and a pseudo Terminate in hand.
Also increases my maximum theoretical [[Blightning]s to 5, burning-inquiry to 6, and should I have the 6 mana, Consuming Vapors to 3.
Not sure if the theoretics will turn into realistic. It warrants some play testing...thoughts?
August 3, 2010 10:39 a.m.
Actually, if I reverb'd a Consuming Vapors , it would copy it from the stack, so the copy would not have rebound. I'd be smarted to Reverb at the beginning of my next turn when I place the rebounded Vapors on the stack, because then my lands will be untapped. Sneaky sneaky...

Went up against a discard deck last night, and lost because I didn't get any discard! Heh. Well, he said basically what everyone's been telling me, and that's this...
My three weakest cards are Abyssal Persecutor , Liliana Vess , and Consuming Vapors . They are generally too slow for most decks considering our meta.
I've sideboarded Vess for slower decks than mine, while adding in some cards that I think will give me a boost in speed and utility. Thoughts?

I would reccomend you replace Reverberate with Pyromancer Ascension thats always on you can discard your opponent like no other
August 9, 2010 2:14 p.m.
no reverberates, not enough red mana to be effective. You won't have 3 red mana sources until maybe turn 6. any by then you can afford to pay for 2 spells hard cast (depending if you still got temple bells and sign in blood to bolster your hand).
August 9, 2010 5:59 p.m.
Ehh not quite true Computer, I often have 3 red mana by turn 4, but I think I will agree with you that it's not really doing me any favors having the card.
I was hoping to copy a Burning Inq with a Reverb so that I'd be guaranteed to cast two Inqs. Having two in your hand, casting one, and losing the other to the discard is pretty annoying, especially when it would win you the game.
Might just go with a 4th Sign in Blood , or even try out that Pyromancer Ascension . Might be interesting...

Was really missing the Persecutors, so essentially replaced Liliana with Sarkhan.
Essentially, whenever I got out Liliana, it was to use her (slow) tutor ability, often to kill my Persecutor. I rarely used her discard ability.
With Sarkhan, upon playing him I can immediately sack a Persecutor to get a 5/5 flyer and likely end the game. On top of that, he provides a short term draw engine which may help to thin out my land draws, or get something crucial.

And here I thought card:Liliana's Caress was them trying to make discard viable.... nobody's mentioned the whore that is Obstinate Baloth either...
