This is my take on a Metalwork Colossus deck. While I am definitely a fan of the Colossus, it was not the primary reason I decided to build this deck. I was initially a fan of Reckless Fireweaver and Whirler Virtuoso when the set was spoiled. I thought Fireweaver looked like it'd be fun to brew around and I love building Thopter decks so of course I was a fan of Whirler Virtuoso. I didn't think about putting them together in the same deck until I heard about the infinite combo with Whirler Virtuoso and Decoction Module. I tried a bunch of different builds but this was ultimately the one I felt was the best and the most fun to play. I originally had a deck that went wide with Servos and Thopters as the primary way of getting the combo kill but it proved to be very brittle and slow. Since it is so easy to break up the combo kill I knew I needed another win condition, and that's where Metalwork Colossus comes in. This deck cares about artifacts and so does the Colossus, so it seemed like a natural fit. With all that said, here is a breakdown of the card choices.
Creatures
Metalwork Colossus is a really fantastic card that can bring the beats. It can also be cast for free and brought back from the graveyard, so yeah it's quite good.
Whirler Virtuoso was part of the inspiration for the deck. It can bring out infinite Thopters and is a decent body on its own. It has tons of synergy with the Colossus for creating Thopters that you can sac to bring it out of the yard and there's the obvious synergy with Reckless Fireweaver for creating the combo kill.
Reckless Fireweaver is the other inspiration for the deck. A decent early game blocker and can ping the opponent with all the artifacts entering the battlefield. It becomes really strong if you can manage to stack them or with double/triple triggers from Panharmonicon.
Foundry Inspector is a decent body at 3/2 and makes all my artifacts cheaper, which is very important in this deck. It allows me to cast more artifacts per turn for the Fireweaver and makes Colossus cheaper. It can also crew my vehicles which is quite relevant.
Pia Nalaar is an amazing card. She creates a Thopter which is obviously good for this deck deck and her abilities are super powerful and relevant. Pumping an artifact and distracting a potential blocker is really useful, especially with a Colossus on the board.
Artifacts
Decoction Module is not an incredible card, but it makes the infinite combo possible so it is primarily in the deck for that reason. Of course it also triggers Reckless Fireweaver and makes Colossus cheaper so it has other benefits. The extra energy also makes also makes Harnessed Lightning more potent.
Panharmonicon is great for double (sometimes triple) triggers on Fireweaver and Pia and the Virtuoso. It also can help the infinite combo. Overall, it's just a fun card.
Prophetic Prism is great. It replaces itself and fixes mana and counts towards the win-cons.
Cultivator's Caravan is an awesome mana dork that can be a 5/5 for 3 mana! It essentially counts toward 4 mana of the Colossus on its own and is a great attacker/blocker. Oh and it triggers Fireweaver too I guess.
Other Spells
Harnessed Lightning is great instant speed removal. It helps that it is customizable and that it can hit some big stuff if you have the energy to burn.
Glimmer of Genius is in here for card draw and for energy, but I am not sure I like it in this slot. I am considering more removal or perhaps something like Padeem, Consul of Innovation to protect my artifacts and potentially draw some cards.
I am still working out a sideboard..
As always, thanks for stopping by and feel free to offer any suggestions!
