I've actually found Braid of Fire to be incredibly useful in this deck.

Sure, there aren't any expensive cards in this deck, but since this deck is based around universal card draw, my hand will be just about filled up every turn, and Braid of Fire allows me to play most of the cards that I draw. Only once have I gotten to the point where Braid of Fire has produced more mana in a turn than I could use.

Also, it serves as a cheap red permanent for Kederekt Parasite .

I think I can see the problem with Braid of Fire : You only have the one instant. Because the mana goes away after your upkeep, it becomes immediately irrelevant if you don't have an instant in hand. That said, I can also see it being good with Kederekt Parasite . However, if you ARE using the mana it produces during the main phase, that is incorrect and you may be considered cheating.

If you want a cheap red permanent that does something, I would look at something like Seal of Fire , while although not doing heaps, serves as removal of pivotal cards such as Deathrite Shaman , Birds of Paradise , and Goblin Guide , ect. While it is kinda annoying that you have to sac it, there's not a whole else that does anything.

I already run Seal of Fire

Goblin Guide is really fun, especially in the card draw situation. A 2/2 for one red, and card draw damage possibly?

Try Barbed Shocker as a red permanent for your Kederekt Parasite effect and of course more draw/damage engine

I actually used to run Goblin Guide but it turns out that it has a "put" effect, not a "draw" effect, so it won't trigger any damage. And without that, its just a chump blocker.

Barbed Shocker looks really interesting. I've managed to get off a couple crazy plays by ciphering Whispering Madness on Kederekt Parasite then attacking for the win while my opponent was tapped out (they didn't expect 15 damage in one turn :P) and Barbed Shocker fits right up that alley. At 4 mana it's a little expensive to use for Kederekt Parasite but the potential "surprise you're dead" synergy makes up for that.

Thanks for the advice!

Jace Beleren 's +2 and Jace, Memory Adept 's ultimate? JMA's ult is an insta kill with the Parasite =P.

So for a way to active the parasite on first turn why don't you try running either of the red leylines? Leyline of Lightning or Leyline of Punishment are the two

Temple Bell is better than Jace Beleren and Jace, Memory Adept will never see his ult in this deck.

The leylines are just subpar. With all the card draw in this deck, I will have something better to do than activate Leyline of Lightning and Leyline of Punishment is surpassed by Rain of Gore . Sure, activating Kederekt Parasite first turn is fun and all, but I'd rather wait until third or fourth turn and play a red permanent that will actually benefit me.

I'm actually planning on making some major changes to this decklist. With the introduction of Fate Unraveler in Born of the Gods, I can finally take out Kederekt Parasite and stop having to rely on sub-par red permanents. So I'm going to completely remove red and move towards a more control oriented theme. I wouldn't be surprised if Black Vise found its way in over the course of this.

Also, resuggest Jace Beleren . I plan on adding him now and that'll get you some TappedOut points or something :P

Thanks for the suggestion!

Sucks that you removed red. Barbed Shocker was a great asset, as well as some of the others. But I do like the control aspect. Thanks for including my idea of Black Vise !

I hate to break it to you, but Black Vise is not in modern.

Some cards I would suggest are: Phyrexian Metamorph , Gitaxian Probe , and Noxious Revival .

+1.

Scorprix, what do ANY of those cards have to do with the deck? Sure, the shapeshifter is good, but he has no synergy with the deck. Gitaxian probe, the most synergistic of the three, lets you stare at their hand, and makes YOU draw a card, so it's pretty bleh. And Noxious Revival? He's not even playing green. I know you're trying to help, but please try to fit the theme of the deck.

His suggestions really aren't that bad. Gitaxian Probe is good for any control deck, it allows for a play on first turn, acclerates your hand, and lets you know what you need to save your bounce spells for. Noxious Revival allows for recursion and, since this deck is so draw heavy, won't eliminate your next draw. On the other hand, I would argue that the amount of draw in this deck, along with it having multiple copies of every card, make such recursion irrelevant. The green mana is feasible to hit with City of Brass , not to mention it's phyrexian mana. And Phyrexian Metamorph , while not synergistic by itself, offers a lot of versatility since it's also able to copy non-creature artifacts. I would include it if Underworld Dreams was an artifact.

Forced Fruition to punish them for casting spells?

February 7, 2014 4:27 p.m.

711Keaven says... #22

Forced Fruition is way too expensive, and can end up being useless if my opponent has a superior board state.

I think that Teferi's Puzzle Box and Jace Beleren are better than Jace's Archivist since they're harder to remove and don't require constant mana. I tried using him in a different deck and he always ended up getting removed before he did anything.

Thought you might use Jace Beleren. Always nice to have a PW against creature board-wipes

Deck is clean. No bad things to say. Well done!

A good deck, but to slow to be truly competitive. Looks like a fun casual deck though.

Veinfire Borderpost could help get that triple black on Underworld Dreams and be a red permanent for you to put back Kederekt Parasite alongside Fate Unraveler , or maybe a Slash Panther
