"We have no need for military might. We wield two of the sharpest swords ever forged: Faith in our left hand, Wealth in our right."

Vuliev of the Ghost Council

"I once saw the Obzedat moved to action. Since that day, I've been thankful that they're mainly lazy, and dead."

Aurelia, to Gideon Jura

"We do not believe in hiding our wealth in the shadows. This is Orzhov, and this is how we reward greatness."

Teysa Karlov, Grand Envoy of Orzhov

So I wanted to make a deck that was at least somewhat competitive in modern but that also used the extort mechanic that I loved from the Orzhov Syndicate. This was the result. What the deck is focusing on is filling up my field with a bunch of small extort creatures like Thrull Parasite, Syndic of Tithes and Basilica Screecher. This will allow me to have a bunch of creatures that I can cast extort from every turn. Because of this, the deck will slowly bleed my opponents life away while giving it to myself. Basilica Screecher will allow me to block flying creatures if I need to while giving me extort. The Basilica Guards and and the Knight of Obligation make great blockers in general while giving me extort. The Dutiful Thrull makes a great chump blocker (with his regenerate) should I need him. Blind Obedience is here to help control the agrro decks. Crypt Ghast is here as he provides a lot of mana to this mana hungry deck while also giving me extort and Royal Assassin is here because Blind Obedience + Royal Assassin is awesome. Another good combo is the Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond combo when triggered by extort. Sorin Markov was practically made for the deck what with his +1 being a double extort or creature removal and his -3 speeding up the opponents demise. Sign in Blood has great versatility in the deck as it can end the game in the late game or be much need draw power in the early-mid game. Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts is in the deck because she punishes aggro decks and is just great all around. Debt to the Deathless is in the deck to give that final punch in the late game and Vizkopa Guildmage is a nice amplifier for extort. I picked Go for the Throat instead of Doom Blade because I feel that it's better than Doom Blade and Mortify is just there to pick up the slack for Go for the Throat. Finally, I added Obzedat, Ghost Council to the deck because getting a free double extort every turn is great for this deck.

Hope you enjoyed looking at the deck and I welcome any feedback you give me. Have a great day.

Updates Add

Figured out what changes needed to be made. The list of changes are down below:

Added: 2x Phyrexian Arena, 1x Syndic of Tithes, 1x Basilica Screecher, 1x Crypt Ghastfoil, 1x Plains, 1x Swamp, 2x Isolated Chapel, and 4x Temple of Silence

Taken Out: 2x Vizkopa Guildmage, 4x Basilica Guards, 1x Royal Assassin, 1x Debt to the Deathless, 1x Sanguine Bond, 4x Scoured Barrens

Reasons: I was having major mana problems with the deck when I went to my local modern night. Thus I decided to up to land count form 22 to 26. The Isolated Chapel was put in to help mana consistency while Temple of Silence was added for mana and deck consistency. The Phyrexian Arena was added because the deck craves consistency and Phyrexian Arena helps that to happen. The Crypt Ghastfoil was added because you can never have enough mana ramp. Finally the Syndic of Tithes and the Basilica Screecher were added because of their low cost to play and because the Basilica Guards weren't preforming.
