Suggestions appreciated!
Main Premise
This is a budget deck (see below for constraints) built around a gorgon tribal theme because gorgons don't get enough love. Gorgons are very mana intensive, so the main idea is to stall and survive until you have enough mana to start casting the gorgons.
Almost all the gorgons have fairly high defense and deathtouch, which are fairly good deterrents. Additionally, some of the smaller 'meatshield' creatures with lower mana cost also have scavenge, allowing the gorgons to be buffed later on.
Improvements
One of the things this deck is currently lacking is a solid answer to removal. Especially with the higher mana costs, its hard to get many out at first, and dropping the first couple gorgons on the battlefield might draw out some removal which can set you back a good deal. Reaper of the Wilds has an excellent activated hexproof ability, however, it requires leaving two mana open to actually use it.
I'm concerned about the mana cost of Sisters of Stone Death and how feasible they would be. I feel they work better in a golgari deck with more green ramp so they can get out faster. I will leave them in for now and playtest for a while.
Budget Constraints
I would prefer not to include cards greater than $2 in value to the core of the deck, and keep the deck under $30 (currently ~$22).
Higher Budget Options
Sisters of Stone Death and Vraska the Unseen are very nearly within the core budget to begin with and could be easily added to the deck, perhaps in place of a couple Hythonia the Cruel or
Xathrid Gorgon
copies. While slightly more expensive, Pharika, God of Affliction would certainly fit the theme well, add some additional utility, and the indestructibility would prevent it from falling to Hythonia the Cruel becoming monstrous.
