+1 always a great deck from you.

I feel like you'd probably be better off running Dark Ritual or something like that than Everflowing Chalice , just because your only real expensive card is Repay in Kind , which you only need to cast once - after that, the Chalice is probably just going to sit there (of course, I say this based solely on looking at the deck without having ever playtested it). It would also add to the surprise factor a lot, and obviously it's less vulnerable because it's not a permanent that can get removed, so they can't slow you down quite as easily. Just a thought.

Awesome deck idea, +1!

I agree with cheznet on the Dark Ritual , if only due to the surprise factor. I'd also ask if you've considered adding in a few Angel's Grace ? Unless I'm mistaken, they would provide you with protection against a poison counter rush once you have 0 life, allow you to get close but not to 0 if you don't have Phyrexian Unlife out quite yet, and if you do and are at 0, it would actually give you 1 life, which you would probably then lose with the Phyrexian Arena . Furthermore, it would work well with the Near-Death Experience on your maybeboard, and give you a bit more protection along with your Grand Abolisher

Guys, Dark Ritual is not legal in Modern...

@ cheznet You're right, Chalice wasn't that useful so I removed it. Added some options to stall the game a bit longer and it seems to be working fine right now.

Also. I agree that Dark Ritual would be really cool but as I said it's not legal. Will definitely include it in the casual version of the deck though :)

@ greggsmk Great suggestion on Angel's Grace . I wasn't too sure but it adds another win-con (with Near-Death Experience ) and can help me survive a bit longer if needed. Great fit in there.

Wall of Blood would be a good way to instantly zero out your life total.

Also, take a look at Suicide Machine. It's EDH and a bit more combo oriented, but it might give you some ideas.

@ 711Keaven Great suggestion, will definitely make room for it!

Great deck, had 2 suggestions

How about adding 2x Gather the Townsfolk , since this deck is about low health, having so gives you 5 tokens for only 2 mana, which these tokens can be used for sacrifice for Plunge into Darkness

Also removing a Death's Shadow wouldn't hurt, since this deck aint about creatures to much anyway

I played this deck with the combo Wall of Blood + Ragged Veins The opponents attacks, you pay 20 life (assuming you have Phyrexian Unlife ) and then cast Ragged Veins on the creature you blocked. Aaand you win.

CricketMarquis haha that's awesome, will try this!

Don't know how I missed this but Ragged Veins don't work since you can't pay for life you don't have.

Incredibly flavorful, and incredibly creative deck. And in the hands of someone with experience, incredibly deadly I'm sure. +1 without a doubt. I'm curious, have you tried Erebos, God of the Dead as a card draw mechanism? If it's speed you're looking for, he can draw you a whole burst of cards all at once.

Cool deck! +1

Worship + Near-Death Experience + High Priest of Penance is a nice combo too! :)

How about using Thoughtseize ? You would lose life but in this deck it wouldn't matter, infact the life loss could even be a good thing.

Sorry seems like I missed last comments. Thoughtseize is a great card and was quickly added to the list. Great suggestion!

I wish I had suggestions, but I can't think of any. This deck is one of the few that deserves to be called 'beautiful.' If I had the budget I'd be sure to build it. +1

Most legit piece of art I've seen. I want but have already gone way too overboard on cards... +1

by tehcannable does the same sorta thing but still with some significant differences. Worth checking out

While I do love this deck, I really see no purpose for Sangrophage. Yes, it eats away your life, but there are better ways to do that by far. I'd strongly consider swapping it out for Herald of Torment. For 1 more mana it's a bigger body with flying, and mid to late game can be used to give Death's Shadow flying as well, nullifying your need to board wipe and hope you can squeeze him through. Furthermore, if Herald of Torment was already on a creature, he'll survive board wipes (even if his host doesn't).

I'd also strongly suggest using Orzhov Charm in place of Devour in Shadow

What's better, Read the Bones or Night's Whisper. Whisper doesn't have scry, but comes out a turn earlier. I always play with whisper, as that 1 mana can make a lot of difference turn 2 when you have nothing to do.

You're right that Night's Whisper is better for fast & aggro decks but since this build relies a lot on combo and is more midrange, I prefer Read the Bones to see what I'm getting
