I'm trying my best not to copy other people's decks in any way other than NecroPony in making it Gisa based.

NecroPony and TheHamster, what are some things that have good ETB or LTB abilities that could work in combos with Gravespawn Sovereign?
November 23, 2015 3:56 p.m.
If you want a funny LTB try Cyclopean Giant, not many people use that guy. Its funny as hell when you sacrifice him.

obitus, I like the comedy aspect of it, but instead it offers no reusable aspect to this deck.
November 29, 2015 11:05 a.m.
IDontMakeSense, I beg to differ on the reusable part.
Cyclopean Giant's ability is a "when" trigger, so you may respond to it with your Gravespawn Sovereign and the four new zombies you just made.
Cyclopean Giant's ability does not rely on him being exiled or in the graveyard at the time of resolution.
At least that is my notion on the rulings of triggered abilities.

obitus in my reading of the card, as I see it, the trigger would follow Cyclopean Giant even when brought back by Gravespawn Sovereign. NecroPony, what are your thoughts?
November 29, 2015 6:40 p.m.
It's not the most powerful effect in the game, but its cute.
November 29, 2015 6:48 p.m.
Looking at your build, I don't think there is any room for a card like this. I just wanted to show you an interesting LTB effect.
Your build includes more more combos and good stuff than my own build. Simply put, I find your deck a more powerful build. I made my build very simplistic and focused on fundamentals revolving around Ghoulcaller Gisa ability.
So to me Cyclopean Giant reads a 4 cmc fodder for 4 zombies, with the added bonus of turning a non-basic land into a basic land upon death.

You might want to add Cauldron of Souls. It works especially well with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed that you have in this deck. Necropotence is great. Harvester of Souls can do well in here. Those are my suggestions for now. Hope these help.
If you want more ideas, check out my deck.

Cauldron of Souls doesn't actually combo well with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed simply because of how counters work, if a creature has a -1/-1 counter, it doesn't cancel out and remove both counters if it already had a +1/+1 counter. The creature would simply be sitting there with both counters on it canceling each other out. but they would both still be on there preventing future use of the abilities. that being said it is a great card, but no, it doesn't work especially well together
November 30, 2015 7:44 p.m.
Actually, if there is a counter the creature with mikaeus's undying ability and the opponent casts a board wipe, THEN you use the cauldron, meaning that they are unable to die permanently ever again, unless they exile stuff. I'm not saying you should use the cauldron while the creature hasn't been undead, so to speak. They still have a death trigger, they are just unable to die permanently.

My last reason for no to Cauldron of Souls is that I have no ways of bringing it back from grave which I'd what my deck focuses on.
November 30, 2015 10:29 p.m.
121.3. If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters are removed from it as a state-based action, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on it. See rule 704.
They do cancel out. That's why Black Sun's Zenith is the perfect boardwipe for Mikaeus. Just remember that persist and undying can't bring tokens back. They do activate, and they try to bring the token back to life, but the token disappears from existence and doesn't come back.

Simply, a +1+1 count is merely removed when a -1-1 counter would be added. They cancel each other out in a way. And vice versa.

+1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters do cancel out as a state-based action. (@NecroPony: this is NOT a replacement effect; both kinds of counters do exist simultaneously for a brief time, which is significant for reasons I will explain.)
HOWEVER, if a creature receives enough -1/-1 counters to kill it, the counters will cancel at the same time the creature dies, and the creature's last known information (the state in which it last existed on the battlefield) will show that the creature died with both kinds of counters on it (because both SBAs are performed simultaneously). Therefore, Black Sun's Zenith won't remove +1/+1 counters from a creature it kills, and it won't reset undying. It can, however, be used for low X values to remove some counters without killing the creature.

@NecroPony I feel that Umbral Mantle is a slightly better version at least for keeping Gisa alive.

To be honest, I don't see room for things like that. I'm happy where the deck stands.

To lower your curve, here are a couple possible cuts.
Necromantic Selection could become another board wipe. Preferably something like Damnation or Mutilate
Extractor Demon is weak. If you want mill, Mesmeric Orb does a lot more for a lot less mana.
Dictate of Erebos could become Grave Pact

Damnation is good but pricey. I've been saving up for it.

I'd honestly just copy Lili's land base. Then cut the fetches, cavern, and Eye of Ugin and just add swamps. The rest are the best way to maximize the generation of mana
