Prey Upon might be very good for this deck. With first strike deathtouch creatures, it could be an efficient way to get blockers out of the way and compliment your equipments, particularly Viridian Longbow that requires you tap the creature.

Also, why not Vampire Nighthawk? That card is amazing! Gonti, Lord of Luxury might also be worth a 1x addition. That's a fun card that really annoys opponents. The card you steal stays and can be cast even after Gonti, Lord of Luxury leaves the battlefield.

I have a similar deck for Standard format. Maybe it can give you some ideas? B/G Fun with deathtouch (3-1 at FNM)

Cool deck! Good luck!

BioProfDude Thanks for the suggestions!

Unfortunately with Prey Upon and other fighting cards First Strike does not take effect since the spells forces the two creatures to simultaneously trade numbers.

As for Gonti, Lord of Luxury, I don't think that I could fully utilize him with the amount of mana I have. I would be using it all to advance the cause of the deck. So he essentially just becomes an expensive 2/3 deathtouch creature. So I think I'll leave him out. Plus, I really hate the Kaladesh block. xD

I'll consider Vampire Nighthawk though.

And I'll defninitely check out your deck.

Thanks!

Prey Upon, ah yes, it helps if I fully read the card, eh? :-)

Nature's Way would actually work as I have stated (damage is one way, so it's not a fight card). Clear Shot is a bit more expensive, but it does buff the creature just a bit and is at instant speed.

Anyway, hope these suggestions offer you a bit to ponder! Good luck!

Ah, the other card I forgot: Gifted Aetherborn (a.k.a., vampire groundhawk!) is a steal at .

You could put Rogue's Passage in the deck to help you go in for lethal kill with Phage the Untouchable

Dragon Fangs would go great with Phage the Untouchable.

I agree with whoever suggested Gifted Aetherborn and Vampire Nighthawk. Both have deathtouch and lifelink attached to a fairly good body. One of them also flies. The might seem a little daunting but your mana base looks like it can handle it.

This looks like a great deck as it is. Deathtouch is so much fun.

SlimJim83 I'm thinking probably Gifted Aetherborn. I don't want flying to get in the way of people blocking me.

Thanks! :)

Yo, where them Vampire Nighthawks at?!

GolgariGreenthumb Vampire Nighthawk was one of the top contenders of this deck, believe me. Ultimately, I ended up filling the 3 mana cost creatures with Glissa, the Traitor and Pharika, God of Affliction because I wanted this deck to have the capacity to survive in the long haul and I thought these creatures would be ultimately more useful.

I think Blooming Marsh woudl be a great addition to the deck. Narnam Renegade is a nice 1 drop, in case you are looking for any of those. Revolt can be triggered with Evolving Wilds. Just some additional thoughts.

Oh yeah, to finish a previous thought-- Narnam Renegade is better, in my opinion, than Pharika's Chosen because of the extra toughness and the possibility of getting that Revolt +1/+1. Further, the new pirate, Dire Fleet Poisoner, might be better than Ambush Viper for the same reason. Both have flash, but a 2/2 is better than a 2/1. So you don't have any pirates in the deck-- doesn't matter, a 2/2 with flash and deathtouch is still one more toughness than a 2/1 with flash and deathtouch.

Still a cool deck!

BioProfDude Thanks a lot, dude. I will definitely think about those. What do you think about the problem I asked about in the description?

I think your best option for using Lure is to couple it with a pump spell like Larger Than Life. In Modern, I don't know if there is a more efficient spell? I play Standard and Pauper, so I may be a bit out of my territory on this one. Nevertheless, cards like Larger Than Life, Blossoming Defense, and maybe Heroic Intervention might be good?

I realize you're trying to keep this fairly budget, but I really do think that Blooming Marsh is needed to smooth out the mana a bit. Just a thought.

I like this build! It makes me want to try Modern!

BioProfDude I’ll think about those.

Do you not think Woodland Cemetery is enough? It does the same thing, but the untapped condition is a little different.

I think both Woodland Cemetery and Blooming Marsh are good to have. Blooming marsh can be a great turn 1 through 3 card as the dual land can facilitate plays from either color so well-- versatility as the early game goes. Sure, it comes in tapped later, but by that point it normally isn't a problem. Moreover, more dual lands just add more versatility throughout the game. If you really want to go full on, even one of the expensive fetch lands could be played to time exactly when you need one color or the other (and trigger revolt), though I think fast lands (like Blooming Marsh) and check lands (like Woodland Cemetery) are better for this deck.

Just a thought. Others, particularly with more knowledge of Modern, may have other opinions worth more, to be honest.

Predator Ooze with Lure is boss, id add white for the first strike Archetype of Courage

May 23, 2018 9:47 p.m.

Lord_Olga says... #22

Phillygreenman007 Concerning Predator Ooze, Lure is really only there to complement Deathtouch, so I’d rather not add things just to combo with Lure.

Also, as nice as it would be to have something like Archetype of Courage in here, I’m hesitant to splash a third color in a deck with such a low mana base. Plus, using artifacts does have its advantages over using creatures, so I think I’ll pass on that, too. Thanks a lot for the insight, though!

You're not utilizing Glissa, the Traitor's full potential. Consider replacing Murder with Executioner's Capsule and also add Sylvok Replica. Whenever a creature dies you can return an artifact, and this gives you a suite of removal for many different types of permanents. Mindslaver if budget allows.

Also, replace Lure with Nemesis Mask for the same effect, which is reusuable after the creature dies, but that only applies to the amount of combat damage you are able to apply at any given time. If you're looking for board wipe efficiency, consider Engulfing Slagwurm and Dead-Iron Sledge. Remember, they don't say combat damage... just "blocking or blocked".

Scion_of_Darkness

Executioner's Capsule would be nice to be able to return, but I just can’t get past that “nonblack” condition.

Sylvok Replica feels like a distraction, but I’ll think about it.

Mindslaver tooooo expensive.

Nemesis Mask This one I’ll really consider. The permenance is really nice, however, the draw back is that it’s much slower to use. Definitely will think about it though.

The last two, I’m not really looking for board wipes. I’m looking for ways to take advantage of Deathtouch. Those sort of have a Deathtouchy thing going on, but the trade offs are probably too much. Dead-Iron Sledge will kill whatever it’s attached to, and Engulfing Slagwurm is just too much mana.

I like this deck, I have the cards and am trying to work some Vampire Nighthawks into it for a bit more flying defense, as I think 4 reach is a little low. Plus a little life link never hurt especially if equipped with first strike.
