Wat a great card! Thank you Jay

Very nice! +1! I'm glad to see more folks out there that are excited about Assault Formation! Have you thought about using Wall of Blossoms instead of Carven Caryatid? It's got a lower CMC and gets a similar job done. If you're going to run Vent Sentinel, which I see in your maybeboard, one card to consider is Sprouting Phytohydra, which will continuously add bodies with Defender to your ranks, especially if you boost its toughness, and use spells like Pyroclasm. Feel free to take a look at my defender deck: The Best Offense.... I appreciate any and all feedback!

Axebane Guardian maybe a ramp game plan could serve as back up?

Thanks Buckminsterfullerene for these kind words! Will look ASAP to your deck! I think I'm going to stick with Carven Caryatid instead of Wall of Blossoms. They do the same thing, but I like the 2/5 more than the 0/4, that's a personal thing ofcourse ;-). The Vent Sentinel is a great card, for when things doesn't go as it has to go, so I think I put it into my side-board. I like the Sprouting Phytohydra, to bad it's CMC is a little high (in my opinion). I think I also run this card in my sideboard. Thanks again for the suggestions!!

I've thought about Axebane Guardian before, APPLE01DOJ. But I think Overgrown Battlement does the same thing, instead it gives only Forest, but I think it isn't that bad in this deck. Thanks for the suggestion anyway!

I saw it in a Tooth and Nail deck once. ...but your deck seems pretty well balanced as is.

April 4, 2015 2:08 p.m.

I like this deck a lot but i'm concerned about it's possibility to win. To win you almost HAVE to have Assault Formation on the field. You only run 4 and they have the same name. You're very weak to a Slaughter Games or a Surgical Extraction and if one of your Assault's gets removed it will likely be a while before you draw another. I think it'd be worthwhile for you to include a few dig spells and/or find another version of Assault formation so that you're depending on 1/15 of your deck to win. I say this because not every deck you face will be creature based and merely defending won't be enough if they are not.

I was thinking about Thats also, you are totally right. But not every deck run those cards you mentioned. And if it would be than I have my instants to shoot my opponent :-P and I'm also have Vent Sentinel to do that job. But again I know what you mean, I was already waiting for a comment as this.

And this is also what is MTG is about make a fun deck to play with friends :-)

Well the realistic approach is Raging Ravine Treetop Village or even Mutavault

you could do a one-of Banefire with all the Overgrown Battlement mana for an uncounterable finisher

That would be sick.

I never used lands like those, so I have a question about it. If I attack with Raging Ravine for example, and it becomes blocked by a 4/1 creature. Does it goes to the graveyard, or can I still use it as a land? I definitely want to play those lands! The Doran, the Siege Tower has been mentioned before, but I don't want to play with it. More people use it over the Assault Formation and that's the reason I don't want to play it.

I like the combo of Overgrown Battlement and Banefire thanks for the tip!!

This Deck is screaming for a play set of AEther Vial to speed it up.

I am a really big fan of putting in Doran, the Siege Tower and moving away from the defender theme.

Yeah, more people would play Doran, the Siege Tower. But I wanted to make something different and this is what I came up with so.. I like the AEther Vial, but it's a little bit unnecessary because my CMC isn't that high at all.

aether vial isn't good when your cmc is too high its good because if you cast it on turn one, on turn three you can play a 3 drop with your mana and a 2 drop with the vial. It also allows for you to play cards without worrying about counters as it is put into play and not cast. Usually its best in tribal decks that are trying to mass creatures.

Yes they go to the grave but so does everything else. The typical idea is to safely attack with them though. Modern is all about Manlands. I prefer Treetop Village over Raging Ravine since it can safely operate under Tectonic Edge pressure. In this deck I would use both 4x treetop 1-2x ravine & 1-2 filter lands.

I have to disagree about using AEther Vial here. I know the card very well, having played many Hatebears/Death & Taxes variants, and this deck is not well-suited to it. Ideally, you want almost all of your creatures to be the same CMC (usually 2) with a few higher (4 or so 3-drops, maybe 2 4-drops) and a small cluster below as other Turn 1 plays without vial or turn 2 plays with. This deck's creatures curve smoothly, so it's not really necessary because once it hits 4 it barely does anything. Not to mention the relatively low creature count; decks with Vial often run anywhere from 26 creatures up.

The card is amazing, I just don't think this deck wants it. Also it's expensive as hell.

AEther Vial is sick in Suicide Black. Allows you to play Control in an Aggro build.

Firespout will do some good in here I think. Flying is a major weakness I think, and Firespout does a lot to remedy that. And I don't think any of your walls will die when you use it.
