Creature (2)

Enchantment (2)

I decided to take it upon myself to boldly go where no man has gone before... Defenders need love too!

This is a deck based entirely on Defenders and the hidden potential they contain. There are two win conditions, of course.

1: Colossus of Akros and some X-cost Mistcutter Hydras make for some overwhelming power with the amount of mana that Axebane Guardian will be generating. Use this power to win (obviously). This is the primary win condition.

2: Doorkeeper and Mind Grind (Mind Grind's X-cost plays along very nicely with Axebane Guardian's mana generating power) allow for a rather effective mill, should you not be able to overpower your opponent, or are having trouble getting to that point.

Noteworthy cards:

Doorkeeper - Vital for the secondary win condition, and it's an amazing bonus that he happens to be a defender as well. He'll be milling for quite a few cards later in the game.

Axebane Guardian - My inspiration for this deck. When I saw him, I realized that a Defender-based deck was quite unique, and so here he is, as the deck's centerpiece.

Sylvan Caryatid - In addition to counting towards Axebane Guardian's mana generation, these guys can generate it all on their own!

Colossus of Akros - Something I've always believed had potential. It seemed like the best way to unlock it was by putting him in a deck full of his own kind! A 20/20 Indestructible Creature with Trample isn't exactly something your opponent wants to be looking at across the field either.

Mistcutter Hydra - X-costs in ramp decks are always big hitters. This guy is no exception, and Protection from Blue, being unable to be countered, and haste practically make him a guaranteed home-run.

Bow of Nylea - For those situations where your Defenders and bombs seem to be getting destroyed a lot, this will let you recycle them.

Mana Bloom - allows access to other colors of mana, specifically for Mind Grind and our sideboarded Aurelia's Fury and Wear / Tear.

Mind Grind - Very important part of the secondary win condition. The X-cost combined with Axebane Guardian allows for some deep mills later in the game.

Sideboard:

Plummet - This deck has no flying Defenders. Plummet is here as a way to deal with decks who use too much evasion for your taste.

Cyclonic Rift - This is here for those decks who simply have too many creatures for you to deal with at once. In addition, 7 mana in this deck is very easily attainable.

Polukranos, World Eater - Remember what I said about X-costs in this deck? Yeah... Well X-Monstrous can get kind of hard to handle. He is in the sideboard in case you need to be more aggressive.

Aurelia's Fury - This deck lacks on removal, so in case it is absolutely necessary, Aurelia's Fury should be able to help. Plus, you know, X-cost.

Wear / Tear - With the dawn of Enchantment Creatures and Chained to the Rocks, this card sees a new-found value in Standard.
