You should maybe add Jace architect of thought and a Ashiok but for a deck not close to being done it is a great deck you do not need to change much.

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into getting those cards after I see how this deck goes got a lot of play testing ahead of me.

No Triton Tactics ? The Tome Scours aren't as good as they seem. It's the mill equivalent of a vanilla 1 drop 1/1. My suggestion is swap those for a couple of Tactics and Aberrations

The Tome Scours are in place of what I believe will be Thoughtseize once I get a play set of them.My thought process is if I can turn one destroy what they have in their hand and then mill away what they might be thinking of how to come back with it can really mess with a lot of players.

If you're going the defender route, maybe have a look at Doorkeeper . I know his ability costs a bit, and thus would keep you from casting as many other spells, but it really does add up when you have lots of defenders on the field, including multiples of Doorkeeper . I made a deck based around the card, which you can look at if you like.

+1, good luck at your next FNM!

I tried running Doorkeeper I didn't really like it just in general it doesn't pay off very well. I would drop Murmuring Phantasm for them and I have to get out 6 Defenders for it to beat milling with the Phantasms and at that point I also have to spend 3 mana a turn for it which isn't an issue if I have them out which would be around turn 6 or 7 where I would on curve get those out but in reality turn 9 or 10. I am thinking of increasing the count on Phenax though.

I'd say increasing Phenax is your best bet. He seems to be the deck's primary engine, and that warrants a 4-of, even though he's legendary. It's just one of those situations. Doorkeeper is kind of meh, but I think he's a lot of fun in draft as well as budget formats, which is why I built an $11 deck around him. I understand your reasons, though, they do make sense.
