if it works for you in your causal play the it's awesome! another suggestion is play a card that draws X cards ( Stroke of Genius Mind Spring Braingeyser ) and play a card that gives haste to all of your creatures ( Concordant Crossroads if you want something green) or a card that gives an extra turn . so then you only need the infinite card draw, which digs into your win conditions.

i really like this deck it just seems fun the only problem i have is that you can't stop affinity decks i don't know where you could fir it in but i would add some sort of artifact defender. some i have been looking at are Shield Sphere, Haunted Guardian or Steel Wall.

angelofrazgriz the beauty of MTG is that you simply can't take everything into a consideration. There isn't a deck type that is better than everything else and you can't build a deck that works perfectly against everything. Not quite sure how artifact defender would even help against affinity decks but even if does, there really isn't any reason to alter my deck for worse just so it could be better against one type of deck. Sideboard maybe, but even then Shield Sphere is not modern legal. Haunted Guardian nor Steel Wall doesn't simply give any real value for this deck. They would only make it slower. This deck is fast. It really is. And that means I don't have to "stop" opponents decks.

Very nice! Freed from the Real and Axebane Guardian/Bloom Tender is a pretty easy infinite to achieve. I would suggest taking out the Black and adding in Red for a Banefire instead of exsanguinate. I can see why you picked exsanganguinate for the extra survivability but I think the uncounterability of the Banefire makes it better here. Also, is Oona's Gatewarden really that good? You could play Traproot Kami or something.

I like how cheap this deck is too. I might have to actually build a Modern deck!

NewHorizons thanks for commenting. Oona's Gatewarden is great because it gives be both blue and black mana from Bloom Tender. I used to have Banefire in this deck but Exsanguinate works with previously mentioned Bloom + Gatewarden combo, Banefire doesn't. Also, it's far superior in multiplayer games (that I mostly play).

I had not thought of the hybrid mana of the gatewarden giving you more with bloom tender.

So this deck isn't a competitive modern deck but is a multiplayer deck?

NewHorizons I mostly play kitchentable magic but I have played this deck against competitive decks too and it works.

Those must be some intense kitchen tables, man.

Anyway cheers +1.

I absolutely LOVE the concept of the deck, and If I were that defender man who is always going to draft 5-color good stuff, I would add red for vent sentinel in this infinite mana combo! TEMUR DEFENSE!

Aefinn says... #14

Thanks IntoTheStorm! I like Vent Sentinel but it has some problems too. It would be perfect if it wouldn't need tapping. Now to make it usefull you would need 2 Freed from the Reals, one for manadork and one for Vent. Not worth it when there are so many options that work with only one, especially when it would mean adding extra color to the deck.

True that, but that was just for anyone who wants to go rogue and also, keep going with this, maybe if this list gets that popular it could became a true recognized tier 2 strategy!

I made a very similar version of the deck that seems to be vastly more consistent than your version for only a couple reasons. It runs a few copies of Blue Sun's Zenith which is a tutorable win con if you have the axebane freed from the reel combo and runs Banefire which is an uncounterable win condition. It also runs Wall of Denial which is just really damn annoying to play against. Here's the list! http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/02-01-16-DAM-defender/

323Dimitri yeah, not a bad deck by any means. Banefire sure is better 1v1, I give you that.

I think since you are splashing black simply for 2x exsanuinates, its not worth taxing your land base for. Wurmcalling is also a bit slow as you have to wait a turn to attack with the tokens, but if you dont really mind that, Id suggest Wolfbriar Elemental instead, as you get more bang for your buck with it and its pretty efficient as it is. Also, Blue Suns Zennith is a insta kill with infinite mana basically and comes your your colors and is tutorable.

February 25, 2016 5:44 a.m.

Aefinn says... #20

RoarMaster, thanks. Blue Sun's Zenith is actully pretty solid suggestion. works both ways and is tutorable as you said. I don't see the point with Wolfbriar Elemental though. I already own wurmcallings and they have the exact same effect.

I am open to suggestions that can give insta win instead of have to wait 1 turn. Restrictions: has to be a modern card and either black, green, blue or combination of those colors.

February 25, 2016 6:31 a.m.

RoarMaster says... #21

The point of Wolfbriar is that it is a better card if you dont have infinite mana. Say you have 10 mana, not hard to do with your list, you either get a 9/9 that can be removed/chumped all day long, a 6/6 each turn if you buyback, or you get a 4/4 and 6 2/2s that will probably win you the game in 2 swings. You get over twice as much P/T for the mana spent compared to wurmcalling. Thats the point of it.

Another semi-instant win card that you could run, and is tutorable, is Staff of Domination.

February 25, 2016 4:13 p.m.

Aefinn says... #22

Thanks for all the help RoarMaster. The problem with Staff of Domination is that it doesn't give a wincon itself. Sure, you can draw with the whole deck if you want but I don't see point tutoring it when I can use the tutoring on wincon card.

Wolfbriar Elemental could be potential card, especially because it's green but I went with Maga, Traitor to Mortals instead because it gives an instawin and works well in multiplayer too.

The point of staff is multiple. First off, it allows you to go infinite with either of your tap-for-x-mana guys, something you cannot do with overgrown battlement. You simply need to be able to produce 5 mana from a creature.

It also gains you infinite life, which is a wincon against all but combo decks, since they almost always scoop to it.

If you have infinite mana already, and can draw your whole deck, its better to be able to do this than just cast one exsanguinate. If the exsanguinate gets countered or Angel's Graced you still have infinite life, mana, and cards, and are way better off than otherwise.

And ya, it means overgown battlement isnt just a pretty face in the deck, and he can be a winning combo piece.

Carven Caryatid seems like a stronger play than Sylvan Caryatid. You have a pure combo deck here, and combo decks don't win if they don't get their pieces. Draw is pivotal, and draw that synergizes with your strategy is ideal.

Aefinn says... #25

No, no, noooo. Sylvan Caryatid makes this deck much faster. You say this is a pure combo deck but this works really well even without the infinite combo. Especially when there are possibilitys to tutor everything you need.
