Thanks for the upvote. This deck looks solid as can be. Love Vexing Devil in that combo you have going. Yeah sure keep taking that damage.

Dang this deck runs fast! Does a great job with removal as well. Tempo aggro indeed! Isochron Scepter would be amazing with all the two and cost instants you run.

Thanks! Used to mess with it actually, but found I preferred to keep the spell in hand. Found the curve was low enough I could usually play what I wanted and keep counter/removal magic up. Maybe as a singleton though one day!
Thanks again!

+1, cool deck, like the Vexing Devil Combo. Do 500 Black Lotuses even exist? :D If so, why are they so darned expensive??

Not that it needed it, but +1. ;)
Love the deck, but Average CMC: 1.73? You can do beeter than that! lol.
Love the name. I just feel this deck could be harder...better.....faster....stronger.
On a serious sidenote though, to go with your other Helixes, could add Warleader's Helix , but I didn't read all the comments and whatnot on here so that may have been addressed. Not that the deck technically needs it either.
Love the 500 Black Lotus too. Didn't realize Bill Gates would have chosen a name like emask. ;)
But great stuff. I love low cost decks with Umph!.
January 23, 2014 3:20 p.m.
Didn't look at Warleader's Helix 's cost...
Nevermind..
January 23, 2014 3:21 p.m.
49 cents ain't too shabby being Bill Gates and all... Nah, I know what you mean. And I'm definitely more of a Pauper kind of guy if you catch my drift... (Haven't used that saying in a while...)
It's a neat card for sure, but will probably stay away from it. I love low cmc! It could be lower, but I find this is a good balance. This deck's power partly comes by playing with cheaper cmc critters and spells. I could go more one drops and maybe Immortal Servitude , but the Nimbus and Duelist really shine combating other critters and well, they're resilient to most spells. Against most decks I've played, I think I've found my balance. I have thought about Soldier of the Pantheon , but Parish does a good job at scaring ppl into removing him. This helps some other threats stick later.
Anyways, thanks very much for the advice. You know, I might just give that Helix a shot after all!

I like Proclamation of Rebirth /Ranger of Eos decks, it just feels so good when you can return three of your favorite one drops.
Seems like hell to play against - Vexing Devil (which will vex your opponent probably more than once thanks to Proclamation), Remand , Path, Lightning Bolt and Helix which you can return with Snapcaster, which - aside from his generally crazy utility, especially with the aforementioned cards to choose from - also doubles as Champion of the Parish surprise boost - which is one of the one-drops that can be fetched and reanimated in this deck. AND he can flashback Proclamation, too! Damn.
Solid stuff!
The only thing I'm concerned about are manaproblems, though. What I'd exchange (and you probably not) would be the playset of (the titular) Deft Duelist and Knight of the Holy Nimbus .Both are hard to cast, particularly the Knight is something i'd never want to play in a tri-colored deck, even if it's primarily white.(Admitteldy, you'd lose the synergy with Pithing Needle :D)But I'd exchange them for other good (human) two-drops like ... Phantasmal Image ? ;)
Keldon Marauders are humans too, and albeit short-lived, provide some pressure and also make a good blocker against aggro. Stormblood Berserker is also really good, he might work in this deck with Vexing Devil or any of your burn spells, but I'm not too sure about that yet, it at least rarely works out on turn two in this deck. You should also have enough Instants and Sorceries (with Snapcaster) to make Young Pyromancer worthwhile. If you want to add more infernal company for your Vexing Devil, Rakdos Cackler might do a nice job as well, although he doesn't help your Champion.
I'd definitely play a singleton Grim Lavamancer .He's human, and in the very least, he can recycle the CC2+ creatures even if you want to keep the rest for Proclamation and Snapcaster.
Also feel free to inform me when you managed to get your hands on those 500 Black Lotuses you wanted :D
January 24, 2014 4:50 p.m.
Thanks Zerpha! I actually have 1000 Black Lotus but figured I'd only need 500 or so.
Thanks for all the feedback! Believe it or not, but I rarely have a hard time casting Knight of the Holy Nimbus . I do like your suggestions and think they are definitely more aggro options, but there's so much removal in my meta and I think Modern in general. Deft and Nimbus stick around, and while they don't have ETB effects, their presence--especially the Knight--really helps by using up my opponent's removal (UWR likes to Path him, which is fine by me as it's one less Path). I also find these critters often fight favorably against others in Modern.
The combo in this deck kind of sits back. You try and play the game, and use the pieces as they come. I find this way I'm able to keep pressure on rather than searching for whatever pieces. While this list could be more tempo/aggro with the suggestions you've added, I find this balance works out well for me as Deft and Nimbus are very efficient in matters of their own effects, but also the ways in which they make your opponent play--if that makes sense (like ppl paying to kill Nimbus or trying to cancel/play around Deft).
Anyways, thanks very much again!

Oh I see, if you're playing in a spot-removal heavy meta, it makes sense that you'd want to keep them.
Yeah, most of my suggestions were indeed focused on aggro.Your deck looks like aggro-control, that's why I thought you might like them.
And half your mana sources are white afterall, so maybe I overestimated the average color screw one might come across.
Thanks for your feedback on my other decks, too!
January 24, 2014 7:39 p.m.
No worries, thanks. I do like your suggestions and think it'd be quite fast. Spot removal and well, flavour has me sticking with this. It's been working out pretty good against some online lists too. I think they're resilience is what makes this deck more consistent.
...And I'd run Young Wolf if I could for sure. ;)
January 24, 2014 7:58 p.m.
Yeah, it's unfortunately neither in your colors nor human.
Consistency is the key to a competitive deck, and an untouchable 2 power first striker is probably more powerful than I first thought. She can also kill off many attackers unharmed. Particularly burn decks that run Ball Lightning and other one-shot tramplers have a hard time against her.
Her shroud is barely a disadvantage for you either (unless you'd really need to Path to Exile her for a basic land for some reason. Which, oddly enough, could be worth it in some rare scenarios, since if you exiled her after she dealt her first strike would allow for a pseudo pre-M10 combat rules change advantage).
January 25, 2014 6:35 a.m.
I like your thinking. I've done that once with a one drop in the list before, but usually when you have to path for a land it's not a good sign--oddly enough, that game went well, Yay! With the Remand
I don't often have land issues thankfully! Love how Remand
counters pretty much everything.
I can't target her with Elspeth or Stronghold, but it's not often an issue as there is often some other critter on board. I think the trade off is definitely worth it. I really love her though, the Anti-Geist!
Anyways, thanks a bunch again for commenting! I really do appreciate it!
January 25, 2014 10:44 a.m.
Remand
is a great card indeed. I didn't consider it's 'landfixing capabilities' yet, but you have a point. Since it's a cantrip, you might draw your next land earlier.
Damn, I regret not bying it back then when the playset was only 2 bucks! >.<
January 26, 2014 6:18 a.m.
I got lucky there. I was surprised to see the new prices on some cards, especially fetchlands! I'm glad I didn't trade them away when I started and thought they were crappy lands as my booster rare...
Kind of upsets me as it's quite a barrier to new players.
January 26, 2014 9:44 p.m.
I don't remember fetchies ever being cheap, but they indeed skyrocketed to even more ridiculous prizes with the introduction of Modern.Oddly enough, both the Zendikar lands as well as the original cycle from Onslaught.
I unfortunately started playing with Mirrodin (and didn't play during Zendikar), so I never got my hands on any by cracking boosters.
New players that get introduced to the game by experienced players won't have that problem I think. Especially these days, when you're only one click away from the secondary market value at all times.
But you still have a point, not every new player has an experienced friend, and might get tricked into a bad trade without ever thinking of these cards' steep value.
We're getting off-topic though, since not a single word in this comment really was about your deck
But feel free to PM me your reply.
