xiao.wen Thanks so much for the comments! It's cool to see ppl getting ideas and having fun with this list. Thanks for the feedback as well!

You bought how many Deft Duelist s??? Lavinia is a neat card I've never seen before. You know I haven't thought about swapping out Knight of the Holy Nimbus , but have thought about other creatures I could play in this shell. For nostalgia's sake I think I'll keep this list as is for now, but had considered cards like Delver of Secrets  Flip and the newer Soldier of the Pantheon (in place of Student/Parish perhaps).

Nice list of yours as well! I always appreciate the feedback. Thanks again!

Soldier of the Pantheon ive found is one of those cards that plays even better than it looks. i ran 4 initially sideboarded at grand prix beijing this spring and by game 3, they were pretty much my best performing mainboard creature. granted that was standard, but it really was a major early game force and i cant imagine it being unable to at least show up and get some good work done in modern, especially because theres alot more multicolored stuff that would bounce right off him.

haha i picked up 9 of the duelists, 5 at one place, 4 at the second, and the third store didnt have any. i grabbed a bunch of Jhessian Infiltrator as well, and it was quite funny watching the store guys faces as i was requesting the cards and digging through the old boxes in the back, 'you want...what?'

re: knight of the nimbus, its interesting, as i was trying to explain that i felt like it wasnt synching with the strategy as much as maybe something else could, i felt like my list of disclaimers about the things that was actually good about it was unreasonably long for a card that was under discussion of getting cut. as youve mentioned, this really is a Vexing Devil hinjinx strategy, and the nimbus and the duelist work great because the extra resources spent worrying about them are wasted as they really need to get spent worrying about the ranger/devil main thrusts.

when my azorius build fared well against this setup, it was because i was able to exile the devils and keep them out of the graveyard, once they were out of the way, the rest of the offense slowed down a bunch. Boros Reckoner in the nimbus' slot might be worth a few trial runs. obviously its slower, a bit more vulnerable to wipes, doesnt fire the champion, etc. but its a much more of a clock that demands exile than the nimbus, potentially creating increased space for the devils to do their thing. Figure of Destiny is another potent efficient little guy that eats excess mana and stays sharp, but again all of these ideas really point out that this strategy is really focused around the champion's human tribal theme. its hard to change one piece without taking out the whole 'human champion' module.

Yay for Jhessian Infiltrator ! I bought a few of those awhile back, great card, just needs a home. I actually used to run Boros Reckoner , I do like that card muchly. I guess I just like the speed of Nimbus at 2 mana.

The human tribal isn't as strong as it could be, but I've enjoyed it as it often comes through and the critters are cheap (manawise). I like Figure, but I can level Student once--which is all I usually do--quicker. If I get higher than that, icing on the cake. One thing I liked about Knight of the Holy Nimbus is running my Pithing Needle s alongside. Usually I have a better use for them, but there are some lists where I have a bit of freedom in regards to sideboard options. Also, it's just really fun!

I might switch Proc to Servitude, it can be handy with 2 drops in the yard. Also love Dragonmaster Outcast . If it comes up, it is likely to die, but with proc effects you can really force your opponent to deal with it while you work on the devil strategy or whatever the plan is at the time.

I'll have to think about Reckoner again. Thanks again for the awesome comments and feedback! Very helpful, I enjoy these sorts of discussions muchly.

I still find your lack of Lotus Guardian s disturbing.

BLEATH It just wouldn't be fair. Nevertheless, I am deeply ashamed it wasn't my idea first.

Magma Jet seems bad here. Why is Young Pyromancer not in this? What about Meddling Mage ? Those seem like good additions.

Thanks OpenFire. Young Pyromancer is a great card and could probably fair well in this list as well as Meddling Mage . Think they're both meta-dependent. For my tastes though, neither have the resilience I'd like. Their effects on their own aren't really doing it for me.

Magma Jet has been awesome. It's not super powerful burn no, but it's a swiss army knife kind of card. Find it deals with lots of critters in my meta and the scry is great--and so is the burn occasionally.

Thanks for checking it out!

There are too few instants and sorcery's to make delver of secrets useful, trade ranger of eos for aether vial and add relic of progenitis to sideboard and nice use of 500 black loti.

@ charlizard Thanks, but I'll pass this time. I do like AEther Vial --this deck actually started with that and cards like Epochrasite and so on--but it slows this list down.

Thought of Delver of Secrets  Flip before, but would change most the deck to accommodate. I like Relic in other brews, but it really hurts me here to play it myself what with Snappy and the Devil/Eos/Proc play.

I'm really just sharing this list for now as I'm happy with it's current form, but really I'm always up for suggestions, so thanks!

Thanks for checking it out!.

i found dave palumbo's deviant art and he's posted a higher res image of the deft duelist art.

http://www.deviantart.com/art/Deft-Duelist-147832766

our girl is seriously homely, but I don't mean it in a way to take away from the quality of the illustration, it almost makes me like it more. theres a bunch of other small details that come out on the bigger image that rule. for one, check the slice/burn mark on her cloak as it hangs over her right tricep.

xiao.wen That's badass! Thanks for sharing!

She's a really cool card. The art is what drew me to it. Be neat to see her reprinted--but with the same art!

Hey!

Awsome deck.

I was wondering: As mentioned by HardcorePawn, how viable is Hindering Light in this deck? (Your opinion)

And why is Deft Duelist "so good" here, where Dorotheus brought up some good alternatives like Soldier of the Pantheon .Also, why do you use Deft Duelist over Geist of Saint Traft ?

Thanks for answering, and thanks for uploading, really great deck! +1

Hey there laoshan3337! Thanks for the comments!

I've messed with Hindering Light before, and while I like it, I feel with my meta the 'cancel anything Remand ' is a better fit. I'm sure you could do fine with it, just the cards I currently use better suit my meta.

Deft Duelist is awesome. Cheap, one mana less than Geist, and she's not Geist... I don't like Geist... But a better answer to this, I like the fact she is only 2 mana. Also, she blocks Geist all day coming out a turn earlier or leaves more mana open in the later game. Shroud is great with first strike, and she's a rogue--I love rogue decks. I don't really like Geist because he just seems too good. I know there are many ways of dealing with him (deft duelist for example), but I can't bring myself to play that card. I think I lucked out with Deft Duelist because in most games I play, she is the conveniently costed 'anti-Geist'.

I've thrown Soldier of the Pantheon --and Hindering Light --in the maybeboard. I think soldier would be great as well as possibly a delver-ish strategy. I've kept the current cards I have because they're cards I enjoy playing. Also not too commonly seen in Modern! I want this to be rogue, and well, at least in my meta, the surprise factor has really come in handy. I love Student of Warfare late game.

This deck works by making efficient plays and leaving your opponent with not so efficient options. Between Deft Duelist and Knight of the Holy Nimbus , you have 8 cheap critters with quite the board control. It takes a lot to deal with them (e.g., a board wipe, paying Nimbus' cost, etc.).

Even with my meta, there are probably some changes I could make to make this more efficient now. I've thrown some of those ideas in the maybeboard. Right now though, I've just left it as it was since before cards like Soldier of the Pantheon came out. I really like these cards, and that's what's most important to me lately as I've been playing more for fun.

Flooded Strand has been reprinted in KTK, so you could replace the Marsh Flats with them.

Thanks Vyxil,

Totally forgot about the new/old lands. I'll consider it. Maybe keeping the old ones would save me from some land-attack strategies. Though maybe I'm just paranoid.. Thanks again!

I see why you like Knight of the Holy Nimbus, it shines nicely in the deck. Also, I love the flavour.

One thing I would recommend though, you've got lots of fetches but you're only running 1 Sacred Foundry and 1 Hallowed Fountain but 3 copies ofGlacial Fortress. You might be better off up-ing you Hallowed Fountain count by one over Fortress.

But yeah, cool deck and a definite +1.

Thanks enpc! I'll definitely consider it. Yeah, this deck is definitely more focused on playing cards I like such as Nimbus. I have found him pretty useful in this and other lists as well though.

He's definitely more part of a target strategy when I play him. If he sucks up bolts and whatnot, that's great. But if he takes away my opponent's Paths and whatever else I'm pretty happy! Just allows me to stick other more integral critters later on.

Anyway, thanks for commenting on the deck! I've been playing mostly for fun lately, but am pretty stoked that Zendikar is coming back. That's when this whole MTG obsession got a hold of me...

Thanks!
