I'm in love with Elspeth, but I'm not in love with playing the same deck as everyone and their sister. As a result, I've decided to try brewing a new FNM viable deck based around her. I've opted to play Dega (RWB) because of how uncommon the color combination is... I'm not a hipster.
Lands are obvious. Might change Guildgate numbering around or might just change them to basic lands.
Assemble the Legion - Win condition. Get it onto the battlefield and stall for a few turns, then overwhelm the opponent.
Underworld Connections - Best draw power Black has to my knowledge
Elspeth, Sun's Champion - Favorite card in Standard and the core of the deck, huge win condition
Anger of the Gods - Fantastic early game board wipe
Dreadbore - Budget Hero's Downfall
Merciless Eviction - Supreme Verdict without having to play blue
Mizzium Mortars - Strong late game board wipe or ideal for handling Blood Baron.
rakdos return - Burn or late game hand destruction. Versatile card in many aspects.
Thoughtseize - Thoughtseize
Devour Flesh - Cheap guaranteed creature removal
Doom Blade - Effective at removing a large portion of creatures in standard
Magma Jet - Strong early game burn and scry is invaluable
Blood Baron of Vizkopa / Obzedat, Ghost Council - This slot was originally taken by Triad of Fates for testing, but it's just not a good card. I played a few games and it was a disappointing draw every time. Decided to change the slot for Blood Baron or Obzedat instead.
Sideboard:
Celestial Flare - Additional removal that gets around protection and indestructibility
Chained to the Rocks - Amazing against mono-blue
Warleader's Helix - 4 damage and 4 health is great.
Debt to the Deathless - Late game powerhouse
Glare of Heresy - Deals with just about every white threat out there
Pithing Needle - Pithing Needle
Whipe of Erebos - Give lifelink to creatures if needed. Might change this out for Spear of Heliod depending on how it works with the rest of the deck.
Any feedback at all is more than welcome, so long as it is critical and not condescending!
Note: Not currently in the money, and just putting scry and shocklands into the maybeboard to see how playable this is with guildgates. I know guildgates are terrible and not as good as scry and shocks, but I just want to see if I can use the deck without having to spend $100 on the lands alone.
