A few months back, now, I returned to MtG from a rather long break. I'd never (and still haven't) played at anything beyond a very casual environment, but my time with the game way back when left me with a large assortment of pre-made decks with which I had severely tinkered around, most of them in excess of 60 cards and most of them rather rubbish in a serious environment.
This is a deck that was originally put in my head when I was reminiscing about the good ol' Mirrodin block, and was looking around my set of cards for my Broodstar - which was, regretfully, damaged beyond saving. I looked into it, to see what it would take to replace the Broodstar - I was always quite the fan of artifact-heavy decks, as Mirrodin was my introduction to the game - and bumped into the
Master of Etherium
. Discussion there led me to
March of the Machines
and, in turn,
Splinter
, and a once pure idea grew into a deck that will stoke the furnaces of hatred in my friends.
Right now, though, I'm not entirely sure what direction I want to go with it. Sure, a simple early win built around using Tinker to pull out a Blightsteel Colossus is effective, but I want to allow this deck to be varied, somewhat modular, and above all - funny. If only in a sick, twisted fashion, and if only to myself. That's why the list above has quite a few win-conditions, some of them ludicrous and obviously requiring the Locustron to be even remotely feasible, some of them being more simple and forthright.
It's also fond of degenerate combos. Mycosynth Lattice +
Splinter
, I'm looking at you.
Right now, the ideal early turn is as follows: I get an opening hand with a post or two, maybe a
Glimmervoid
, and at least one of the 0 cost Artifact creatures. Following soon with Tinker or Master Transmuter, I'm able to use the fodder to bring out a big piece of whatever the wincon of the day is - whether it be Blightsteel Colossus,
Sands of Delirium
anticipating a 16-post, or Mycosynth Lattice to set up further shenanigans.
I'm interested in suggestions on where I should take this deck, or what I should be looking into picking up. I'm not necessarily restricting myself to sixty cards, either - while I'll typically only play it at that size, I'm more than open to the idea of keeping a decent collection of cards to drop in and out between games with friends.
The deck has the potential to be converted into a more conventional Blue or Blue/White artifact deck, particularly owing to the
Master of Etherium
it was originally based upon, but I'm much more interested in seeing what sorts of high mana, artifact heavy, or degenerate nonsense I can stuff into this concept.
So drop suggestions, pick apart or add to my maybeboard, tell me I'm a fool, or scoff and pass by. All is fine with me, and I'll be sure to update this as the card content and numbers are ironed out, preferably with some help from you, the viewer.
