When I was a wee little magic player, I had the inspirational idea to use Demigod of Revenge in a deck. It seemed too ridiculous to not use. I looked at many deck possibilities and after a while I came up with the coolest deck ever. A Polymorph deck that used Demigod of Revenge. I was proud of it for a little while at least until all of my hopes and dreams were shattered when I realized that its old text was not related to etb... but rather on cast.
Magic Origins has since rekindled my interest in this deck idea and I'll proudly be playtesting this idea out.
Evolutionary Leap is probably the next best thing to polymorph. While this card may be worse than Survival of the Fittest (and Fauna Shaman may be debated) the effect it provides offers interesting enough interactions to make this deck pretty fun.
So I went into this deck knowing I could only have Demigod of Revenge as the sole creature. It's a really hard work around for sure, and I very much believe that this deck could have much more success being run along side with Collected Company and a bunch of value cards. I just wanted some fun (and hopefully decent play ability) out of this deck.
Demigod is essentially 5 black mana in this deck. It was a tough choice between Jund and Abzan when making this build since Abzan offers better survival and token generation, but Jund lets me play around with easier casting costs. Abzan lets me play with a cool wishboard of creatures though which is neat.
Aside from 3 lands in the deck, all other lands give me access to black mana somehow. I'm also curious to try out Murmuring Bosk over Temple Garden if it ever seems like a bigger issue. Hopefully battle for zendikar will print enemy man lands to replace the Stirring Wildwood in the deck.
The lack of creatures in the deck means I have to get creative. The deck is a control abzan variant and the creatures I need come in the form of tokens and man lands. Adding more creatures could be possible, but would easily mess up the flow of the deck. Eternal Witness could warrant some playtests for sure.
A
Glittering Wish
board offers me a way to access my creatures whenever I want and lets me sideboard in an entirely different midrange strategy if my deck is being countered in any way.
This deck also has ways to win through token beat down as a back up plan.
Sorin, Lord of Innistrad
is amazing in token strategies. He can permanently buff your field or provide blockers that help you sustain life. If I added more token support, I might try to add in cards like Intangible Virtue.
Spawning Pool
Is a neat little trick that can protect you against non trampling, nonflying creature threats, as well as be able to tossed away to evolutionary leap.
I also would like to try Garruk Wildspeaker + Death Cloud as it might be able to work, though I have little experience in the actual archetype itself.
Those were some of the weird cards I had explanations for. I hope you guys can offer some sound critique and suggestions and let me know what you think.
