What do you mean by "lots of stack manipulation with Flickerwisp and Oblivion Ring and AEther Vial"? What kind of stack manipulation is occurring here?

On a completely unrelated note, have you handed in my coursework?

September 6, 2013 2:24 p.m.

Kittacus says... #2

Yeah, coursework handed in with no problems whatsoever.

O.K. So, this trick also involves an AEther Vial on 3 counters. First, cast the O-ring, with the exile ability on the stack, tap the vial. The vial resolves, putting in the wisp targeting the O-ring. Wisp's ability resolves, exiling the O-ring, who's second ability then goes on the stack. The second ability resolves, returning the targeted permanent to the battlefield, but as it never left in the first place, nothing happened. Then, theO-ring's first ability finally resolves, exiling the permanent permanently, as the return clause had already triggered. Then the delayed return from the wisp triggers and another permanent is exiled under the O-ring. Happy?

Sorry, the AEther Vial was already noted. My mistake.

Thank you very much.

So you basically resolve O-Ring's leave the battlefield trigger before its enter the battlefield trigger? That sounds like a fun and rather convoluted trick. Good luck explaining that to a noob at FNM.

Hahaha that is kind of the idea! Thanks for the +1 friend

No problem. Have you seen any of the Theros spoilers? Xenagos, the Reveler looks ridiculous! Thinking up a Gruul/Jund Midrange with him at the core.

Kittacus says... #7

Nah, I've already bagsied him for dragon ramp.

megawurmple says... #8

No you haven't. I mentioned him first so I get to use him.

Oh and, just for the record, I bagsy him. It's in print, so it's official.

Nah, I bagsied him on the morning he was spoiled, ask KrosanTusker

Adding some green for Gaddock Teeg and Voice of Resurgence could be fun. That's more of a Hatebears build, but this deck is similar.

Sounds fun!

September 11, 2013 2:34 a.m.

Kittacus says... #11

the green for Gaddock Teeg seems viable, but Voice of Resurgence isn't really aiming towards what the deck wants to be doing, and is waaaaay above my price range. This is sort of being a mana denial deck, while also being a bit like white weenies.

September 11, 2013 12:14 p.m.

You could wait til Voice rotates... Eh.

In any case, here's an older Hatebears list by Brian Kibler:

And if you really want to be evil, consider Pithing Needle to lock down fetch lands lol. It also can shut down Planeswalkers and Deathrite.

Thalia, Guardian of Thraben hit's you but worth it

Kittacus says... #14

I'd much rather have her in the sideboard (where she currently is) than in the mainboard and so I put in Ghostly Prison as my meta is mainly creature based, and I want to punish them for it.

ExpectDragons says... #15

taking up seven slots just for Gaddock Teeg is a very poor idea there's plenty of other cards you can sideboard that screw with your opponents game plan, Cloudshift just isn't needed either, if you're thinking of using it to bounce against removal just use Rebuff the Wicked . For example you could sideboard Imposing Sovereign - Pithing Needle - Stony Silence - Rest in Peace - Nevermore - Aura of Silence - Grand Abolisher - Angel of Jubilation - Celestial Flare (boggle deck hate) - Grafdigger's Cage - Wheel of Sun and Moon - Witchbane Orb - Karma , plus you have nothing to destroy artifacts & enchantments in there?

also since you're playing AEther Vial there's a combo involving Fiend Hunter & Stonecloaker where by you can exile a creature from the game. By playing the hunter, then using the vial to bring in a cloaker while the detention is still on the stack the creature will be exiled instead and you can play the hunter again the following turn. Also works when targeting it with a Restoration Angel or Flickerwisp off a vial etc.

Galepowder Mage is one to consider in this deck as well

what about Fiend Hunter

September 13, 2013 5:33 p.m.

Kittacus says... #17

I much prefer Oblivion Ring to Fiend Hunter because it is much harder to remove. Also, I don't know what I would take out to put it in, and so if you can think of a good suggestion, please feel free to say so!

Seems a fairly solid deck, though personally I don't like Knight of the Holy Nimbus .

If you like tricks, try Mangara of Corondor . Mirran Crusader is a house versus a ton of creature decks.

Modern and Taxes (White Midrange) is my take on Death and Taxes.

The trick with the Vial, O-Ring and Flickerwisp is pretty neat, but imagine if you could exile 3 permanents in total, 2 of which would be exiled permanently. That would be cool, right?

Well, it's possible if you use Strionic Resonator ! Just copy O-ring's first ETB trigger. You can also strionically resonate the abilities of Blade Splicer , Flickerwisp , Kitchen Finks and Restoration Angel .

I feel that it would be a good addition to this deck for sure.

LeaPlath: Knight of the Holy Nimbus is excellent in my opinion, as it gives me a constant blocker, and (hopefully) with my opponent tapped out, they can't stop him!

TitansFTW: yes, with the addition of Strionic Resonator 3 permanents are removed, but first, what would you take out for it, and 2, I can only really pull it off on turn 5, to hardcast both the Oblivion Ring and use the ability of Strionic Resonator . Awesome idea, but no clue where to put it.

megawurmple says... #21

I'm with LeaPlath here. I don't think Knight of the Holy Nimbus is that good either. He can be removed by -X/-X effects (Mutilate , Dead Weight , Tragic Slip etc.) and by exile (basically all good white removal). A lot of other removal has a "can't be regenerated" clause (Wrath of God , Terminate ). Hell, if your opponent really wants him dead, he can just pay 2 mana, which isn't exactly a huge ask. It may as well just be a bear against a lot of decks.

Take out Knight of the Holy Nimbus for Strionic Resonator .

I'll disagree with TitansFTW about Strionic. It is a cute combo but not competitive just for that.

Kittacus says... #23

What would you suggest in it's wake then?

September 15, 2013 12:44 p.m.

mistory says... #24

Mainboard thalia. She's just so good against storm and the like. Also a good beater.

Either that or put in Inquisitor Exarch or something

September 15, 2013 2:08 p.m.

MollyMab says... #25

It depends really.

Thalia is good in a control and combo heavy format. She makes a lot of cards so much worse in the format and can slow decks down just enough for you to start doing your crazy things.

Eight-and-a-Half-Tails is also pretty solid as a 1 off. He is protection and makes combat maths a lot harder.

Mirran Crusader is a solid beater. Good versus G/B/X decks if you can protect him right or sword him up.

Mangara is probably the best generic option, because you can do some fun tricks and a lot of value with them.
