Maybeboard

This is my build of Derevi (that I'm currently playing in paper as is). It is pretty budget-friendly but still decently fast. I use a lot of bounce lands like Simic Growth Chamber and enchantments like Utopia Sprawl to maximize Derevi's ability and get a lot of mana very fast. I have some hatebears (Collector Ouphe,Archon of Emeria,Drannith Magistrate) to slow down the game and I just started including actual stax pieces (Stasis,Winter Orb). As my playgroup is getting more competitive, I'm considering adding more.

Right now my main win condition is to get infinite mana with various combinations like Incubation Druid + Vigean Graftmage or various creatures with Freed from the Real, draw my deck with blue sun zenith, then make my opponents draw their deck or take all the turns with Nexus of Fate. An alternative outlet for infinite mana is Leyline of Abundance which also allows you to make infinite with Freed from the Real on Noble Hierarch, basically at no cost (in terms of slots in the deck). I've chosen to cut Argothian Elder + Wirewood Lodge in favor of Ley Weaver because the fact that her partner Lore Weaver is an infinite mana outlet turned out to be very useful. Another fundamental card is Seaside Haven, this a just an infinite mana outlet stapled on a land. You just sacrifice Derevi, draw a card, put her into play from Command Zone, untap Seaside Haven, rinse and repeat for the win.
In general the best starts involve a turn 1 elf/wild growth effect, that allow you to cast Derevi on turn 2, and some form of disruption: Deafening Silence is very effective at stopping other fast combos (especially with Flash banned) but Lavinia, Azorius Renegade, Aven Mindcensor or Collector Ouphe are also pretty good.
Aside from the classic Mystic Remora etc. Edric Spymaster is very good with the numerous flying/unlockable creatures. Notably Verity Circle lets you draw if you tap creatures with Derevi. Though the best ones are Blue Sun's Zenith and Pull from Tomorrow as you can cast them during combat after untapping Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun,for example, multiple times in a row.
In this deck hatebears are the main form of interaction, so it's crucial to have some way to disrupt your opponents, especially if they play Ad Nauseam decks or other fast combos. Stasis is by far the best one, but it requires some ways to break the simmetry for it to be a hard lock. Copperhorn Scout and Garruk Wildspeaker are here for this reason. Faeburrow Elder and Vivien, Champion of the Wilds also help (by having/giving vigilance), I'm also trying Nissa, Who Shakes the World as a powerful way to ramp you AND trigger Derevi.
Improvements

This deck is definitely on the budget side but, if you want, the main improvements you can make to the deck are on:

  • manabase: this deck needs a lot of turn 1 green mana but more restrictive mana costs later, so adding fetchlands would help increase the consistency of having Derevi turn-2 as often as possible.

  • other lands: Gaea's Cradle is of course insane with Derevi (if you can afford it)

  • fast mana: although this deck doesn't really need artifact mana, having Chrome Mox, Mana Vault and similars would really help with the speed (and I think the anti-sinergy with collectro ouphe is surpassed by the advantages)

  • free counterspells: Force of Will, Fierce Guardianship, Force of Negation can really help you survive in the first turns.

More budget cuts

As I said this deck is reasonably budget, but some easy swaps you can make are the lands: painlands and checklands (e.g. Adarkar Wastes and Glacial Fortress) instead of fetchlands

Thanks for reading and I'm open to any suggestions, so if you have cool ideas feel free to comment!! :)
