"Now for my next magic trick..." the bird magician said "...I'm going to pull ALL OF THE WURMS out of this hat!" The audience was a bit overwhelmed by her performance...

Hello there and welcome to my Derevi Wurm Magician deck.

Origin

Back when I started my MTG magician career as a kid, one of my first decks was a UG Wurm deck. It was using cards like Belbe's Portal, Elvish Piper, and Quicksilver Amulet to cheat out such stellar Wurms like Rootbreaker Wurm, Endless Wurm, Yavimaya Wurm and Dirtcowl Wurm... I don't know why I built it at the time, but I guess there's just something about Wurms that I found cool! And that fascination has never really gone away. They're kinda like dragons without wings...? They're also... kinda bad X_x'. Perfect then for building a deck that's suitable for the more casual table! And with the new Baru, Wurmspeaker being released in Dominaria United I figured it was time to finally get it built.

However, in my search for a commander to build a Wurm deck, I knew I wanted one that would allow me to have the same kind of gameplay as back then: tapping utility creatures or artifacts that can put big Wurms into play. It turns out that Derevi, Empyrial Tactician, a commander I always associated with mean staxy decks, is perfect for untapping those utility pieces to flood the board with Wurms!

So there you have it: A bird magician putting all of the Wurms into play!

Deck Premise

The plan is simple :). Ramp out those Wurms! Ramp, get out a tap-to-get-wurms piece in play, tap it multiple times to swarm the board with Wurms, and then use the trigger of Derevi and your attacking Wurm army to do it again, and again, and again. Being in Bant opens up some nice support options like Kindred Discovery and Progenitor Mimic and provides access to even more stellar Wurms such as Autochthon Wurm. The deck is also quite greedy in that I left little room for anything other than ramping for Wurms. So there's not really a contingency plan at the moment: it's all-in on Wurms.

Intented Power Level

Not sure yet where this one will land. It can probably be very explosive, but also very easy to stop. I'm also trying to keep this deck at a lower budget than most of my decks.

And unlike most of my other decks, I don't have much else to say about it ;). It's not really done yet and will likely change a lot still. But I'm not going to try and optimize this one too far right now. It's my straightforward nostalgic casual Timmy EDH fix.

Let me know if you have some ideas for the deck in the comments. Thanks for stopping by!
