Derevi... a commander so vile, so despicable, so EVIL that black as a color had to cast it out, forcing this Wizard to choose a new third color. Thus the Baneful, Bant, Bird tactician was born.

This deck is a take on Evil Adam's build, from the MTG Muddstah youtube channel. Adam333 as he is known on tappedout.

The focus is on combat and control. Make tokens, pump tokens, use and abuse untap effects on your own stuff opposed to “staxing” the opponent. Get more value if out your own things.

This deck is a love letter to all of my favorite things and cards in magic. I tried to add as much of my own history with Magic into this list. So each card holds a special place in my heart.

Notable includes are...

Rest in Peace - A card i forced in this build and refused to removed when tuning. I built this deck around not using the grave at all, so there is never a time i wont cast it. With Muldrotha being printed, and so many other generala using the grave, RiP is a must.

Shalai, Voice of Plenty - This card is a powerhouse! At first i didnt like the idea of cutting Archangel of Thune for this, but the first game proved why she was the right choice. She is an amazing mana sink, but the added Hexproof to me and other things was a huge headache for my opponents. It prevented my opponent from using Magister's Sphinx to set my life to 10 then killing me.

The One Ring - What else can be said about of of the most busted and powerful cards printed in the last 20 years except in Derevi it’s so much more. With the untap effects in the list, you can get multiple card draws per turn, and with Capsize, you can negate all negative effects and recast it the following turn for repeatable protection. Derevi is the new “Lord of the Ring”

Update after 6 YEARS with this deck. - While it has had numerous updates and tweaks through the years, going from a more Hatebears theme to a fully Token strat, this deck has become my absolute favorite deck to play. It is super strong, but it’s not unbeatable and certainly not cEDH regardless of what the competitive meter would have you believe.

After countless games with this list, I would say it’s the most fair and balanced deck I’ve piloted that plays well against anyone and everyone. There are no infinites in the list to win on the spot with and it’s designed to be strong, resilient and consistent but not overwhelming. It does the long game well and that’s why I play EDH, for the nail biter, tense games of “is he gonna get there?” And Derevi never fails to deliver a fun and interactive game.

My hats off to you, oh unkillable bird wizard of the sky.

Notes - Sideboard are previous includes that have been cut

Maybeboard are cards I am considering adding.

The list is impossibly tight so changes at this point are very tough. Unless it’s just a strict upgrade, a major case needs to be made for the change.

Finally picked up "The One Ring" for Deveri and I have to say it way more busted in here that I hoped. Untap effects bust this card wide open and Capsize let's me negate the life loss every turn and recast it for protection every turn.

This card is stupid and should've never been printed... I love it.
