the curve is really strange. whats Zurgo doing, also? he can get bigger yeah but SBD seems to do that better since you got the mana to do it. i would main 1 Archangel at most, i don't think its something you really need when you should be controlling everything.

i would take out Zurgo and -1 Archangel, and go +1 Charm and 2 Sorin, Solemn Visitor . can't go wrong with him especially in this kind of deck.

I can kinda see where you're going with Sorin. Just afraid to topdeck him and not have a creature on board.

Also, Zurgo lives to End Hostilities/Elspeth's 2nd ability. I'll think on it, though. 4x SBD sounds hilarious.

Did switch out an Archangel for a Charm, though. I suppose 2 is a bit much.

First off, this deck is a ... awesome.Second off, this deck might need a Sign in Blood for more cards, or scry for better cards. That's all I got.

First off, thank you. :)

Second off, weary of Sign in Blood since I have painlands/seize, but it would give me more reason to use Sorin. Could also be used to clinch an opponent at 2, though. Considered.

Possibly -2 End Hostilties, -1 Charm, +3 Sign in Blood, and then drop Zurgo for 4x SBD since I don't really have to worry about wiping my own creatures beyond Elspeth. If by the time I do drop an Elspeth if I needed her 2nd ability, I'm probably already in a bad spot anyway.

Or replace Hero's Downfall with them and just bring those in when there's planeswalkers. Many options. None of which I'm quite sure are the best.

Thanks to all who have suggested thus far.

First off, you're welcome. :)

Second off, the alternatives to Sign in Blood : Use scry spells like Magma Jet or Spark Jolt . You'd probably like Magma Jet or Sigiled Skink better, though. Magma Jet is good removal/scry, and Sigiled Skink allows you to swing for 2 while scrying 1. The board's supposed to be clear, right?

Won't always be clear, but that's the attempt.

ok so a good reason for Sorin is his +1 will help your guys, but even though you might not always have guys out to utilize it, oh well, it still gets you closer to his ult which is what you want. its only 2 turns away once you drop him, so from then on they have to sac a creature every turn until the end of the game. they can't get rid of the emblem or anything either.

now obviously if they run tokens or weenies it won't help but Drown in Sorrow is a great way to get rid of small armies. it would have a chance of killing Zurgo and your Brain Maggots, but you could run Mardu Ascendancy in sideboard, so if you have to drop Drown, you can then pop MA if you need to protect anybody.

Mardu Ascendancy needs more creatures to be highly effective. As far as thoughts for the deck, Crackling Doom should absolutely be in the SB, if not main. Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker , is very very good as well. My meta has been doing a Sarkhan/Stormbreath split, usually 2/2 with the rest of the Stormbreath set in the board, and it's strong.

Soon I should have the deck (MTGO). Possibly Fraps a video or two of its performance.

Why aren't you running any Waste Not . Im sure that card was designed with Thoughtseize in mind

October 17, 2014 5:38 p.m.

Doomerrant says... #17

Waste Not is definitely an interesting card that could do crazy work with more discard cards, but I don't feel it has a place here simply because I have no clue what I'd replace with it.

I was being serious control is about winning late and with your deck you've got the control you just need that middle finger to end it

October 17, 2014 6:10 p.m.

Doomerrant says... #19

The real middle finger is hitting for 1 with maggots. Then 2 with Sorins ability. Then hopefully Zurgo or a SBD joins them. We'll see how it rolls.

Like where your going with the deck really do but i feel you should run Read the Bones over Sign in Blood because you gain scry 2 before drawing which helps control your draws. Also feel your missing out with Crackling Doom because it hurts them and they lose creatures like sylvian caratid (hate that 0/3 hexproof). You could also use Chandra, Pyromaster to help with removing 1/1 mana dorks or simply getting free card draw later in the game. These abilities will do your deck a lot. I definitly like the look of it! +1 for creative control

Oh i myself am running a mardu deck and have posted my results at my local fnm from friday Butcher of madness is the deck and if you want ideas of for control my deck does that a lot itself. Please feel free to comment and like it mardi's gotta help each other out

October 19, 2014 1:33 p.m.

Doomerrant says... #23

I like Read/Chandra, but Read would skew my curve a bit since I already have a bunch of 3 costs, and I'd have to go 1-of Sorin for 1-of Chandra which I don't want.

Crackling in the sb has worked great.
