I count 15 possible discard cards not including lilly. i would surely be running Waste Not Possibly over the two copies of Sorin as during testing with this he didnt really do much. Your creature base is too slight to get much from his+1. With waste not on the board those mid to late game discard spells keep some value.

Hmm. Now that's a much more compelling argument for Waste Not. I'll give it a test without Sorin and see how things go. He has helped clinch a few matches letting Zurgo/SBD smash for more and gain me vital life back, but we'll see.

I agree sorin is sweet but in the games i played he just didnt do much. Maybe if you kept him and still found a spot for waste not. Maybe -1 utter end and -1 banishing light? That way if you crank out any zombie tokens they can gain you life with his plus one.

I'm thinking of:

-1 Sorin-1 Utter End+2 Waste Not

This way, yes, I still have Sorin to tinker with and possibly ultimate, I still an absolute plethora of permanent control, and the zombies I'd hopefully be creating with Waste Not could benefit from him.

I'm also thinking of dragging a Sarkhan from the sb into the main so I can have more attack options more often. Which would require possibly -1 Plains, +1 Mountain. Might need to shuffle some things around.

This deck looks really nasty! I would love to put it together and see it in action! Sadly, I don't have half the cards I would need! Anyway... +1 for you!

couple questions, 1- does Brain Maggot work well in this deck? his card exile doesn't trigger waste not, and if you board wipe they get the cards back. Is there a better card for that slot, maybe Black Cat or something? 2- i'm thinking about making a mardu deck, what match-ups would i bring sorin and sarkhan in against? Do they come in when the board wipes come in?

@Dragonman39

Actually, against highly competitive decks this deck tends to struggle (or it might be that I'm completely inexperienced). It still needs ironed out before it's truly nasty.

@DiEaBoLiK

Brain Maggot is actually one that I've been thinking of removing for those very reasons. It consistently gets controlled, doesn't trigger Waste Not, etc. It is nice to play one on T2 after a T1 Thoughtseize, but the reality here is that all of these Thoughtseize/Despire/Brain Maggots simply don't win matches in the environment (competitive) that the deck was built for. Anything less casual than that and it's a hell-machine, though.

Sorin is one that I'm still unsure of. His +1 helps when I drag in Sarkhan/Revoker and can get more use out of it. His ultimate is really what I'm after, though. Sarkhan indeed lives to board wipes, and does often accompany them.

This deck may or may not undergo a large change, as it simply doesn't perform competitively. First, I have to figure out whether or not that's just me being a noob to competitive MTG.

Thinking of going domain.

Mana ramp with elvish/sylvan/courser/haven. Throw in Villainous Wealth. Wingmate. Siege Rhino. Genesis Hydra. SBD. Sorin. Keep some Thoughtseize, Utter End, Banishing, Elspeth, etc.

Will probably start that on a new deck and keep this as is for now.

I think you should turn this to modern just for the Liliana of the Veil . She is over powered when it comes to hand control. Maybe also play Oblivion Ring for some nice control.

If I turn it into Modern, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks

Ok now I love Waste Not and i ran a similar deck to yours at gameday, but without Waste Not in your opening hand, it is feasibly the worst card in the deck. When it is in your opening hand, its very, very strong turning your hand rips into cantrips, or free a free 2/2. but without the opening hand or turn 2 draw the card is incredibly under powered, especially if you have already taken apart your opponents hand. Id replace it with 2 Chandra, Pyromaster she is amazing, essentially saying draw a card as her 0 ability. She was the best card on gameday.

If you make it modern consider Shrieking Affliction or check out my mono black Waste Not modern deck Waste Not My Friends The Time Of Hand Rips Is Nigh

My only fear with Chandra is accidentally exiling my only Archangel which is key to save myself from all the damage I end up doing to myself.

if you want a catchall finisher why not try running 2 empty the pits over SBD? you could also add an urborg to you land base to make the mana more consistent.

personally I would be running 3 lilliana and 0 srakhan in this type of list :)

Doomerrant says... #14

Drown in Sorrow/Anger of the Gods shuts down Pits pretty easily, but I suppose I'll try anything at this point.

Why 3 Liliana? If it's for the discard theme, I've considered dropping Waste Not for a few surprise Deflecting Palm.

Somnus21 says... #15

I would say Sarkhan and add a 2nd Elspeth, Liliana does not look too good IMO, but it's all meta-dependent.

GooseNotts says... #16

you want to have the liliana to tutor for your wincon - in a discard/removal deck you can fill your yard pretty quick - empty the pits in their endstep untap and kill them before they can resolve an anger or drown - bile blight is the only real issue but with your removal suite you can just kill the one they target so the rest live and still win.

drop1 lili for a 26 land drop 2 utter ends for 2 sarkhan

October 23, 2014 6:17 p.m.

I don't believe that 26 lands are needed in any deck, even if it's a control deck, although I do recommend mainboarding Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker . I also recommend 4 Hero's Downfall and 3 Utter End just because of the mana costs. Other than that it looks great. Keep up the good work.

I like the walker approach. Think I'll try it.

And thank you!

how works it against aggressive Matchups ?

just a suggestion but perhaps you try :

cut:

  • 1 Utter End ( 2 are great in your Setup)

  • 2 Deflecting P. ( i try it in Mainboard a bunch of Games, now for me it is a funny card, and some situations it can shine, but in the most of the Time its a Sideboard option for me.

  • 1 Lili

ad :

  • 4 lightning strikes

i play myself a Mardu Midrange Deck and Lightning S. often make my Day, in the Meta atm.

and how works the Manabase ?

6 swamps + 1 urborg seems to me in the first Moment a little bit to much monocolor Mana source. So do you try it with 2 more scrylands a perhaps 1 more triland ?

only suggestions beside of that nice Mardu Walker Shell
+1
