I was recently checking out Ninja cards and their ability Ninjutsu and it stayed in my mind. I thought combining Detain with it. Trying to attack with small, flying or unblockable creatures, trigger ninjutsu and at the second main phase cast the detain-creature again. Thought it could be fun.
Idea: unblockable damage with non stop detention
Aether damage or Recycle
AEther Figment
is key to succesfully reach the opponent's life totals. Being an unblockable 1/1 2-drop doesn't perhaps sound impressive, but sooner or later the 1 damage hurts pretty badly.
AEther Figment
can be returned at any moment using the ninjas or other spells, allowing us to recast it for its kicker cost and smash with an unblockable 3/3. At the same time, Glorious Anthem and/or
Ordeal of Heliod
can give you an even greater edge!
You shall not play when I detain
Lyev Skyknight has a huge impacct in this game, even after I lost hope in that card. Once casted, it detains a target non-land permanent - anything from creatures, artifacts to enchantments. As a one shot effect, it doesn't sound impressive, but what if I told you that you may cast/trigger it, attack/swap it with a ninja and cast/trigger it again? Yep, right, that's the idea. If no ninjas are available, throw in a
Dramatic Rescue
or
Into the Void
. This trick works also with Azorius Justiciar and
Soulsworn Spirit
, but they only detain creatures.
Whataaa! Here comes the Ninja!
As we run unblockable and flying creatures in this deck, it becomes really cheap to cast our ninjas for their Ninjutsu costs. In fact, if you take that in consideretion and exclude the big guys, the deck runs almost only 2-drop spells! Efficient, isnt it? The ninjas allow us to return an opponent's creature, draw a card or to fetch another ninja. The number of each ninja to play depends on the context - need more speed or more defense? They mainly help to recast our detain creatures - Lyev Skyknight, Azorius Justiciar and
Soulsworn Spirit
.
What if it goes out of control?
Run Cyclonic Rift or Riot Control to prevent damages and gain some life. You could also simply attack with AEther Figment
+
Ordeal of Heliod
and easily get your 10 extra life without risking you creature to die (if you have 3 turns of course). Sometimes there is a lack of defensive strenght - 1/1 or 3/1 are easily killed - therefore Glorious Anthem come in handy. If burn spells targeting our little defense, run some counter spells like
Hindering Light
or, in some cases, Familiar's Ruse.
Cheap and effective!
I don't know if you noticed, but this deck runs amazingly well for no large expenses! Wheter we talk mana or not. Average converted mana costs is at 3, if you take the Ninjutsu costs it's at 2! The nice marketing fitting price of the deck is only 24,99 too! I'd like to keep it at max 30 if I do find, or you do suggest, special cards tat could give an better edge.
