Reybrandt is the adopted son of a famous Azorius Lawmage and longtime businessman of the Orzhov. His talents, intelligence, and abilities were extremely diverse and led to his notoriety as a notable, kind, honest, and hardworking man. Years ago, Devisser XVII was investigating a string of crimes caused by the cult of Rakdos that involved the kidnapping of Ravnican people from all walks. It was found that these people were being used as hosts for a powerful demon lord, more powerful than even Rakdos himself. Rakdos decided to do this not out of the interest of others but because he did not favor any competition. Unfortunately, when they finally found the people, all were dead except for one child, and the Devisser took it upon himself to adopt the child as his own, not knowing of him being the host of the demon.
Over time, Devisser had been threatened by House Dimir and simultaneously had aggravated the Cult of Rakdos who had found out that the child was taken in by Devisser. When Dimir learned about Rakdoss intention to take the child and they decided to work together to take the child and the house itself, for the Dimir and one night they attacked the estate directly, in which Devisser was killed by demons right in front of Reybrandt. This shock led to him becoming so angry that the demon had slipped through and completely razed the estate and the surrounding area. This demon continued to rage through until Niv-Mizzet contained the demon and managed to suppress it once more, the shock of the containment igniting the planeswalkers spark in the boy, sending him directly to Nicol Bolas himself. Nicol Bolas then took the child in and helped him harness his powers and control the demon.
Eventually, he returned to Ravnica years later, bent on revenge to all responsible for his father and mothers death. This led to him going to the Cult of Rakdos and pretending to be an enthusiastic fanatic to get closer to Rakdos, and upon his reunion fought him and defeated him, but leaving him alive to shame Rakdos with defeat by the demon and child he feared and loathed. His next step involved getting into the Dimir to learn further about what had happened on that night his father died. Learning about that history he decided to make his last step and go through the dragons maze in hopes of meeting Niv-Mizzet and learning about the limiters put inside of him by the Izzet league, so that he may become even more powerful, not knowing Nicol Bolass secret intent on using the boys power as his own.
