4 rounds of FNM last night. I won them all!
here is the breakdown:
round 1: Bant control. I was worried about this matchup. it was against a guy that I regularly beat when he uses his g/r monsters. I ended up beating him 2-0. game one was fast, early lifebane zombies and thoughtseizes. then game 2, he revelationed 3 times!!. he was at 30 life, ad I whipped back a gary and drained him for 10. then I hard casted another gary for 12. after that, it was easy to finish him off.
round 2: mono red agro. this was a really easy matchup. game 1, I was on the draw and she had 2 burning trees and a Chandra's phoenix by turn 3. I happened to have a drown in sorrow, so I swept her board. it was pretty easy to stabilize after that. game 2 she had 3 rakdos cacklers on turn 2, and I had a Bile Blight. I know, im a dick.
round 3: red/white devotion. this was a devotion deck splashing white for Chained to the Rocks. I lost the first game because I wwas stuck on 4 lands with a gray merchant, obzedat, and blood baron in hand. game 2 I hit his early beaters with Pharika's Cure. then I hit his Boros Reckoner with Lifebane Zombie. turn 4 I dropped a whip, and it was game over for him. game 3 I kept a hand with 2 lands and 5 removal spells. I was kind of worried because I didn't hit another land till turn 5. the good thing was that he hit a land every turn. the little gas he had was easy to deal with. obzedat and gray merchant won it for me here.
round4, the finals: I played against a red devotion deck splashing black for cards like Mogis, God of Slaughter and Dreadbore. he also said he had Slaughter Games in the side. game 1 was a little difficult because he got mogis out early along with a hammer of purphoros. he also got 2 fanatics out. it was tough, but gary and the whip pulled it out for me. game 2 I had all the answers, and he had lands a lot. there was one point in the game that a stormbreath would have won it for him, but he didn't draw it and I went on to go back up to 18 life before he lost. again, the whip helped a lot.
over all, I went 4-0, beating all my opponents 2-0 except for the one in round 3. this is the first time I have gotten first place at an fnm, and I am so happy that I did it with a deck of my own creation!
