Ha! Thanks Davik100....that is probably my favorite thing about the deck...generally a Genesis Wave of X=4 or more tends to end in a win :). You are absolutely right that the combo is easy to get to. In my testing I've found games where I'm even holding on to the combo for a turn or two in some cases AFTER I have it (just to ensure it hits and wins, or I have the infinite draw, etc.). It definitely is a deck that you get better and better with over time. I'm still finding lines I hadn't thought ot :)

I actually started writing a little "shortcut page" (i.e. 2 Heritage Druids + Elvish Visionary + Cloudstone Curio = draw 1 card for 1 mana...etc. just to help speed things along for the opponent :) It has a list of combos / interactions and their outcomes numbered; and the opponent can then search the "explanation" pages after the main list to learn how it works (if they don't believe it, just want to know how it works, etc.). I may try to find a way to "attach" it here so anyone that wants to play the deck has it.

I appreciate the kind words as well. I would have loved a +1000, but a +1 is great too!

16smith...I apologize I hadn't got to your comment yet. You are right that Choke is probably a better choice...I had got so excited by the times Twin has tapped out against me only for me to respond with Boil :) But you are right...for the devotion and lower CMC I think Choke it is! Thanks for the help!

Also, I'm not sure if the rules allow this, but having 2 Garruk Wildspeaker, one in play and one in hand, with a Cloudstone Curio out, would technically generate infinite mana with Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and a Utopia Sprawled land, right?

February 1, 2015 11:36 p.m.

I think by the rule of Planeswalkers, casting a second Garruk would force you to sacrifice one, instead of being able to choose to bounce him back with Curio. I'm not 100% on that, but I believe that's the way Walkers work.

February 2, 2015 1:20 p.m.

CrovaxTheCursed is right on that on...planeswalkers ha e a "uniqueness" rule that is a stated action so when a PW sees itself, one instantly goes to the yard.

You can, however, loop Garruk Wildspeaker and Nissa, Worldwaker...as long as the mana works, you Untap lands for 5-mana, cast NIssa (bouncing Garruk) then untapping again for 5, cast Garruk (netting 1-mana), and continue cycle....I've thought about trying Nissa in place of Temur Sabertooth (as I really wanted to get her in)...but haven't tested it enough to say its a viable option.

P.s. The "loop" works as long as the total mana the two Untap is 10. If Garruk untaps a Nykthos that can trigger did 8-mana, Nissa ot has to Untap a few forests...

Good point guys! Its a great interaction!

How has Temur Sabertooth been?

February 2, 2015 6:57 p.m.

Temur Sabertooth has been a super interesting card in this deck. It is the absolute perfect card for the grindy matchups (and I've had some success vs. Control with it as well).

I could only see it working in a "big mana" deck (as you want to cast it with 6-mana in many case to ensure you get all of the benefits of the card)...but in those decks it can win games all by itself.

I played match vs. a control deck today where he cast supreme verdict and I was able to bounce my heritage Druid and make Sabertooth indestructible. Turned a 4-for-1 into a 2-for-1 and I proceeded to kill kim with a Kessig wolf run pumped Sabertooth (holding up 2 mana so when he blocked with his Celestial Colonade I could bounce an elf and make him indestructible...killing the Colonade and keeping my Sabertooth...). There's just a ton of play to if.

I've also had instances where I had extra mana, so I'd bounce an Elvish Visionary or Coiling Oracle to draw another card....or bounce an elf to cast to Untap nettle sentinels...there's just a ton you can do with him.

Having said this; he's not particularly fast...so it limits the copies you can play. I couod easily see running two (and have thought about it)...but I don't think you'd want to run any more than that. He takes up a slot that could be a "win-con" so the value has to be there. I think it's worth it right now (as there is just so much you can do with him...and even just as a "protector" he's worth it right now in the meta.

Gotcha thanks, lemme know whenever you get the chance to check out my updated elves list, i believe i posted it on your wall, Blood elves - Ft. Domri Rade

February 3, 2015 6:22 p.m.

That list is awesome Crazybop09! It's an astoundingly good Elf Aggro list. The Blood Moon and Domri Rade / Packmaster combo give you different angles to attack from. Cool list indeed!

February 4, 2015 6:50 p.m.

I'm literally down to deciding on 1 slot within the deck. I would love to know anyone's thoughts on the following cards. I may want to try to find a way to add in:

  1. Gilt-Leaf Archdruid - I've enjoyed this card in the past. It gives another possible win-con and is a card-draw engine (especially when you begin "looping" 1-drop druids....I may just have to make a separate druids deck to take advantage of this...but it seems good here.

  2. A second Primal Command in the main. This is just extremely versatile.

Let me know (a) if you think I should try to add one or both of these in and (b) if so, what to take out. I'll test all ideas as well....the list is really "tight" right now; so it's literally down to changing a card here or there (and of course working to find the best sideboard)...

I vote archdruid, drawing cards and providing a possible new endgame seems exactly like what this deck wants to do.

February 5, 2015 6:35 p.m.

Thank you mtgplayer443...that is a really good point. It is a card I've really enjoyed in the past, and seems extremely abuseable in this deck :) Thanks for your input!

Would adding 1 Intruder Alarm add more combo and more ramp? The obvious combo with Heritage Druid and the ramp via Heritage Druid or Arbor Elf. Sorry, can't make a cut suggestion. It's like a 5th Cloudstone Curio in many circumstances. FYI: Amazing deck.

February 9, 2015 9:04 a.m.

Caspian89...Intruder Alarm is a spectacular card....it's actually typically a better combo piece than even Cloudstone Curio is in most elf decks...I've tried to add a few copies to the build in the past; but it didn't work out like I wanted to. I think the main reason for this is because I run so many non-creature spells (8 enchantments, 3 planeswalkers, 4 sorcery/instant, 4 artifact...so nearly a third of the deck is non-creature).

It is a GREAT elf combo card though...so there may be a way to work it in (or come up with a slightly different build...It may even be add it to my Elf Devotion Aggro build. Great idea!l

February 9, 2015 3:15 p.m.

Thanks as well Caspian!

The tough part is having only 1-2 "slots" that can be switched out. I've wanted to use Nissa, Worldwaker, Nylea, God of the Hunt, Gilt-Leaf Archdruid, Ezuri, Renegade Leader, Temur Sabertooth, and another copy of Primal Command...and I literally have 2- possibly 3 slots available to choose from those 6 choices...ugh.

Hey man so i took this to my LGS and went 2-1. Game 1 was boggles and i just combo'd way to fast for them to be an issue, 2-0. my 2nd game was a rough burn shell with blood moon, but with so many forests and chalice it was a breeze. i luckily didnt face the tron there, but instead was paired game 3 with twin exarch. This was the only time the deck fumbled , but i know it could've taken them. was still really fun! I normally run an esper deck so changing it up now and again throws my opponents off. i would +1 again if i could =)

Also, the deck i used was a shell of a previous version than the current posted.

February 10, 2015 5:08 a.m.

That's awesome severnaya! Was it the one with Craterhoof rather than Witness/Primal Commamd?

You are absolutely right that twin is a tough matchup. After the PT; I actaully changed the board to deal with it more. This is a large part of the changes in the board.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it though! Hopefully we can make it even better!

it was with craterhoof since i had him on deck already.and i ran 2 caverns mb although i now prefer 3 MB vs my local LGS having heavy control. i have made a few changes and this thurs ill take my esper to modern but my buddy will sleeve up the elf. we will let you know how our changes do in comparison. =)

February 11, 2015 1:59 a.m.

Awesome! Let me know (a) what the changes are and (b) how it does...there's always room for improvement...so I'd love to know your changes and how they've gone. Also, meta's are different; so it's a great idea to mold the deck to compete best in your meta. Thanks for all your help with the deck severnaya!

Trying out a 1-of Weird Harvest...it is a great suggestion made on the MTG Salvation "Modern Elves" page that seemed like a perfect fit here. Being able to tutor up any or all peices of the combo with my extra mana seems very worthwhile :)

Literally the first game I had it in; it won me the game! On turn 5 against control, they tapped out to Snapcaster/Bolt my Heritage Druid. I proceeded to trigger Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx to go on a "draw loop" with two Abundant Growth's and the on board Cloudstone Curio, into Garruk Wildspeaker who untapped the Nykthos for more mana, drawing into Weird Harvest, allowing me to tutor for the infinite combo and win on the spot...the person playing control had me go back and show him how it all worked only to say, "dude...that's crazy..." The deck feels really close to being the "set" mainboard for the current meta. I MAY end up going with 61 cards and add another Forest or Breeding Pool; but I'm not sure...it's such a small change; but could be helpful with mana...

I do still think cards like Nylea, God of the Hunt, Nissa, Worldwaker, and others may be useful in certain match ups; but in the current meta I think this is pretty much "the list". I'd love to hear other thoughts and/or anyone who has tested the deck.

Hey CurdBrosBrewingCo, this may not be the right card for this particular devotion build, but you should check out Chancellor of the Tangle for some of your other green devotion decks. I've been playing around with it and it's an incredibly efficient and useful mana accelerator that almost always hits the board by turn 4-5.

February 13, 2015 4:12 p.m.

DeepShadow...I bought a foul playset the second I saw them aty LGS :)

There has to be a use for it. An extra mana on turn 1 is AMAZING; and beyond that Chancellor is a well, costed creature that blocks flyers (which is big in green) AND adds 3 devotion...you are absolutely right that it is a high potential card for devotion.

I feel like it would work best in a deck where it and Nylea are the to ends...so maybe like a lightning fast "Stompy" build. It is certainly a card that has yet to be exploited; but most certainly could be in devotion. Great idea!

Just.....wow. This deck is one of the best decks I have ever seen. Unfortunately, I don't have the money for this deck, is it possible for a budget version? +1'd
