That's awesome buttergolem....I used to run an Elf Devotion list with an Elvish Archdruid and Umbral Mantle combo (as it goes infinite mana with 4 total Elves...3 elves makes him infinitely large). These type of combos are so much fun! I hadn't thought of Singing Bell Strike yet. Cool idea!

I really like this deck. I started EDH recently and bought a precon deck and made it a super competitive elf edh/tiny leaders and I wanted to take this into modern. This is my list http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/26-02-15-modern-combo-elves/
How is your match up against burn though?

Burn is actually not too much of an issue wolfsokol. This deck draws so many cards that they really should just go for the face (it's a mistake for them to try to pick each elf off one by one)...granted, they can do well with board wipes (pyroclasm, anger, etc.) and Searing Blaze is good against us...but is still is tough for them to get to 20 before we combo off (especially if they are spending many spells picking off individual elves)...and after side the Primal Commands pretty much shut them down. I have been playing with a new sideboard as well (which I will be posting tonight) that actually is even better against burn...but it is not a bad match up to begin with.
Love your deck btw!

CurdBros, I'd like to hear your opinion on dropping the 2 Coiling Oracles for more 1 drop elves. In my limited goldfishing I could often combo out if I had another 1 drop elf. I take your word as gospel on this deck though, so I'm all ears.

Collected Company is AMAZING. Can't wait to add it to this deck!

Caspian89...that's a very good idea. I will certainly test it. There's every possibility it's a better choice. I'm a nut about card draw, and Coiling Iracle is REALLY good; but I totally see what you're saying. Good call. I will test it out tonight.
Hell, now I'm probably better off just replacing the with Collected Company :)

Caspian89...we also had a poster on the MTG Salvation forum for devotion write out that he replaced the Coiling Oracle's with Ranger of Eos's...so that could be another option for you to. At that point I'd probably get rid of Temur Sabertooth and add another 1-drop elf (maybe just an elvish mystic) because that would be a lot of 4-drops (as it's replacing two 2-drops with two 4-drops). Seemed like a pretty good idea to get white in the board too. I'm partial to the synergy between Coiling Oracle and Heritage Druid and also "looping" Oracles to draw cards/play additional lands per turn...but it's certainly something worth testing.
In your idea you could just take out the Coiling Oracles and maybe play one additional 1-drop elf and one Ranger of Eos (if you wanted to splash white). Just an idea I wanted to present here too.

I feel like the one tweak I have is that 4 nykthos seems a tad greedy to me. When I goldfished it I found that often I really wanted a Forest/fetchland instead. I might just cut one. This deck is great tho! Congrats +1

That is a good point llamaglama01....I will try this out. It is a little greedy, but I've found that often having two isn't that big of a deal unless it's turn 1 or 2 (as you can trigger one, play the second, and then trigger it)...but you may be right that it's just not necessary. I'll certainly test it with only three and see if it doesn't help mana consistency even if it is just a little...thanks for the comment and of course the +1!

This is an awesome deck! Definitely a +1 from me. As silly as it sounds, have you thought of adding Altar of the Brood to your deck? It would be silly to pull off an infinite mill combo in an Elf deck. Plus, it could be hilarious in a multiplayer game.

Couldn't you respond to Cloudstone Curio with tapping for the mana using the Heritage Druid + Nettle Sentinel combo much the same way that you can tap a bounce land before returning it using the Simic Growth Chamber + Amulet of Vigor?

Actually Outriderblue...that's not a bad idea at all. Leyline of Sanctity is a big card in the sideboards of Modern decks (and that essentially shuts off Purphoros and Outpost Siege as win-cons)...certainly is something I should think about :) I do have the Primal Command to "bounce" their enchantments on the turn I "go off"; but it never hurts to come from a direction they weren't expecting!
And yes classybobit that is exactly what you do...when you play the third elf, you can tap all three elves with the Cloudstone Curio trigger on the stack (i.e. in response) so you obtain all three mana and THEN you "bounce" one of the elves back to your hand. It's essentially what makes the combo so powerful (as you net mana very quickly). It is a very interesting way to explain it (i.e. like Amulet of Vigor and Karu lands...) and I will most certainly use that in the future (as it right on the money)!

So then you would net 2 mana instead of 1 by Bouncing a Nettle Sentinel

Ah, miss read, I assumed that u had 3 Nettle Sentinel with the combo

That's cool classybobit...it can be confusing because there are so many different ways you can do it. Traditionally, however, if you have a Nettle Sentinel down you don't bounce it (as it untaps every time you play a green spell). So say you have a Heritage Druid and 2 Nettle Sentinels (this is the best because you net a TON of mana) and a Cloudstone Curio....Upon casting the second Nettle Sentinel you would.
- Tap all three elves with the Cloudstone trigger on the stack.
- Return the Heritage to your hand.
- Cast the Heritage Druid again (netting 2 mana)...both Nettle Sentinels untap because you played a green spell.
- Tap all three again, (now 5 mana) returning Nettle Sentinel.
- Cast Nettle Sentinel (untaping other due to green spell) and return Heritage Druid...
Obviously at this point you have infinite mana; but you can see that Nettle Sentinels are what get crazy. Even if you don't have Cloudstone Curio you get a ton of maan. Assume you have two nettle sentinel on board and a Heritage Druid, Arbor Elf, and Genssis Wave in hand. You can.
- Play the Heritage Druid.
- Tap all three elves to net 3 green mana.
- Cast the Arbor Elf (untapping both Nettle Sentinels)
- Tap the Arbor elf and two Nettle Sentinels for 3 more mana!
At this point even if you have only one additional land you can "wave" for X=3 (or cast a 6-drop). It get's really crazy when you have a Nykthos :)
That's why the elves are so important to this version of Devotion. You really want to hit either one of the infinite combos, a lethal "loop" with Purphoros or Outpost Siege, or get to an overwhelming board state...and the elves are really the only way to do this.
Great discussion classybobit...I should have explained it better to begin with and this helped really break down how some of the elf combos work! Thank you!

This looks like a sweet deck, but I'm just wondering, why not Craterhoof Behemoth?
March 13, 2015 11:03 p.m.
CurdBrosBrewingCo says... #20
Craterhoof Behemoth is a great idea cyrusthelin...it is certainly a win-con of choice for nearly every elf deck there is. And it certainly would work here quite often. I just often found that I was basically only casting it when I had already hit the combo (and in those games where I hadn't hit the combo or where behind it was often a "dead" card at 8-CMC.
The best thing you can do with devotion decks in general is use mana-sinks (like Ezuri, Joraga Warcaller, Nylea, Kessig Wolf Run, etc. as you have use both in games where you have a ton of mana; but also have use when you are behind.
Having said this, you can certainly add it to your build (if you are playing a deck similar to this) and you would very rarely be upset to have it in hand. It can also "steal" games in some scenarios (where you have a ton of mana but only 1-2 elves on board). Also, with Temur Sabertooth and Cloudstone Curio you can always bounce it and replay it to get it's trigger again (so you don't have to worry about holding on to it if you have 8 mana in hand).
To be entirely honest, I just didn't have room :) I had enough win-cons that I didn't feel it was necessary more so than another support piece. But it certainly is a usable and great idea!

Wasn't sure if you were aware but you're running 61 cards. Not that that's a problem or anything, but just wanted to let you know in case you only wanted 60.

CurdBrosBrewingCo says... #22
I did know that Figag...very observant!
I run 61 for a couple reasons:
18 lands didn't feel like enough, but 19 was a little too much for 60, but 19 out of 61 just seemed to play better.
I couldn't think of a card I didn't want in the main (i.e. to take out). :)
You could take out one card if you felt you were getting mana screwed; but Ive found it tends to play smoother with 61 over 60 (albeit only a very slight difference oy noticed over 100+ games...game to game you wouldn't really notice much of a difference at all.

Hey DrewsBrews! Great to see you here too! The primer is certainly getting there :). Thanks for the kind words.
Your deck looks GREAT! I'm not sure I'd change a thing.

Hey, I love the deck so +1 for me. Extremely hard desk to play right which typically is a sign off good deck building. Some suggestions and questions, have you considered Intruder Alarm and Forbidden Orchard? Seems like cloudstone is bokers in this deck but also the deck may rely to heavily upon it. Also, is Joraga Warcaller worth it in the side? Seems like you will already have plenty of win con's. Lastly, if you do add intruder alarm dryad should probably also be included.

Elvish Archdruid+Singing Bell Strike can go infinite if you have 7+elves
