After a year out of magic (Right after Theros came out, so probably a year) I decided to come back with one of the old dogs of the standard world. Wait, you say Mono-Blue Devotion isn't a viable deck anymore? Well sir, I say you give this a shot.
1 CMC
Triton Shorestalker: Early + evasive
Gudul Lurker
: Early + evasive with megamorph.
Hypnotic Siren: Great early evasion and damage, but can also win a game late by stealing one their fatties.
Stubborn Denial: Decent counterspell that can answer most problems.
2 CMC
Frost Walker
:Despite its
Phantasmal Bear
-like ability,
Frost Walker
is incredible pressure early in the game and can even trade with one of their fatties late in the game.
Stratus Dancer: Two drop with evasion that can serve as a counterspell later in the game.
Reality Shift: Basically the best mono-blue removal spell you can run. Important to removing any key threat in your way.
Military Intelligence
: Lots of creatures that can attack without a problem, so draw some cards early and often.
3 CMC
Thassa, God of the Sea:Her scry ability is invaluable, and she isn't hard to get online in this deck either.
Hall of Triumph
: Pumps everything in your deck. Helps elemental tokens live after
Master of Waves
dies or makes swinging with your 1/1 unblockables actually mean something.
Fated Infatuation: Copy a
Master of Waves
and the game can be almost un-losable. Do it on your turn and scry. What more could you want.
4 CMC
Master of Waves
: The card that makes this deck go. Gives you enough creatures to alpha swing and can even pump
Vortex Elemental
and
Frost Walker
.
SIDEBOARD
Clever Impersonator: Tokens about to get Bile Blighted out? Copy a
Master of Waves
! Or similar situations.
Thassa's Rebuff
: Probably best for the G/R aggro/monsters match up, just to stop a Pulakranos or Stormbreath Dragon.
Monastery Siege: The only mode you ever want is Dragons. Disrupts control and burn decks alike.
Icy Blast
: Tap em' down to buy some time or open a path.
Triton Tactics
: I just straight up love this card.
