Who loves dropping a Master of Waves? Who smiles at whipping a Gray Merchant back into play? I do. Solely based around the potential of the Nightveil.
INTERACTIONS & PURPOSE
Deathrite Shaman :Helps you play cards exiled with Nightveil Spector by exiling for any color mana. Allows you to hold off to properly sequence turns, for example holding back to block if needed but tapping and exiling cards for 2 damage on their end step if you don't block.
Thoughtseize :Best hand disruption, best removal, and best One drop across multiple formats.
Pack Rat :Allows for the dreaded Turn 1 Thoughtseize, Turn 2 Pack Rat. Great late game, interacts with discarding appropriate card types for Deathrite Shaman, interacts with a Phenax, God of Deception very favorably, interacts with Whip of Erebos favorably.
DuakMantle Guildmage :Adds one devotion both to Blue and Black. Complements Deathrite Shaman. Allows for advantage with both Courser of Kruphix and Scry Effects, allowing you to mill the revealed or scryed card. Interacts with an active Phenax for an almost guaranteed win.
Omenspeaker :Scry 2 is statistically increasing the effectiveness of your draw by up to 200%. Interacts with the Whip of Erebos favorably, while increasing the effectiveness of the Bident of Thassa. Great Turn 2 play regardless.
Night veil Spector :Increases devotion to both Blue and Black by 3 while landing one of the most dreaded flying creatures in the format. Interacts favorably with opponents Scry or Library effects, your Bident of Thassa, and Deathrite Shaman. Greatly increases probability of hitting land drops past turn 3, greatly increases the effectiveness of your entire deck due to the card advantage - especially so after Game 1. Evens out any disadvantageous match-ups as well as gives the deck build an unpredictable 'WOW' factor. (Example: Hitting a Blood Baron that was left on top of library after opponent scrys, exile a land with Deathrite Shaman for a White Mana to cast the Blood Baron on the next turn) Crazy card.
Hero's Downfall : Undoubtedly the second best removal despite the 1BB mana cost. Usually reserved for Planeswalkers or large threats before they grow out of control. Instant speed. What else is there to say?
Siren of the Silent Song :Interacts with both devotion triggered ability creatures. Allows leniency with casting costs, has a relevant inspired mechanic contributing to Deathrite Shaman's effectiveness. Also causes hand disruption, which will likely be Land cards at the point in the game where opponents may have to deal with the Inspired mechanic adding to Nightveil Spector's chances of playing off colored exiled cards.
Master of Waves :Interacts with itself favorably with no devotion on the board. Produces a small army the majority of the time with the added bonus of being protected from Red. This is usually a threat that absolutely must be answered on the opponents following turn.
Lazav, Dimir Mastermind :Adds devotion to both Blue and Black. Is very anti-removal with the hexproof body. Contains a lot of possibilities in the recurring triggered ability, despite being a 3/3 when played. If he resolves and is present on the board state for multiple turns he can and will take the advantage and greedily stuff it into your pockets.
Bident of Thassa:A one of. Allows drawing, contributes to devotion, and allows opening your opponents board for the final swing. Add the fact that it is hard to remove and you have a singleton copy main deck.
Whip of Erebos: A one of. Allows life gain possibilities and reanimation late game. Hard to remove while being able to swing the game completely around with reanimating a triggered devotion ability at the right time.
Gray Merchant of Asphodel:Truly insane card, which should almost always be a win when dropped In this build. At worst, this guy should be setting up a win for your next turn. The life gain is surprisingly relevant in most matches.
Phenax, God of Deception:Allows quite a few combinations of interesting plays with both the Deathrite Shaman and the Duskmantle Guildmage's activated abilities. Besides this, when active he is a Nine Turn Clock at most by himself. Add the anti-removal aspect and he is a singleton in the main deck.
