Went 3-1 again. What I really need to get better at is knowing what to side out against some decks. This deck is really combo based, and the balance is really easy to throw off. And this deck is a lot more solid then my last one. So I have problems trying to side out anymore then 2-3 cards against people. (I side in a lot against Esper and Naya.) So if you could comment about Side deck and side decking against my matchups, that would be very helpful. If you don't want to read the summary, go to the bottom and just read the final thought about side decking.
It wasn't really a super competitive FMN because we've had tons of freezing rain and only 10 people showed up. But the deck performed really well and I might as well talk about it.
First match I faced Esper. His build is pretty strange. He doesn't run any thoughtseize I've figured out, because this was my second time facing him and he has never used it against me. He does main deck more cyclonic rifts though. Pretty strange. I actually swept him 2-0. I've been learning the esper matchup a little better, and my deck is better for it. Anything outside of Supreme verdict I can handle pretty well with a simic charm, and he had less kill and more bounce. So I'd just replace him everytime he did something. Eventually he just couldn't keep up with my one big guy out at a time tactic. Second game was a joke. Mistcutter and Arbor colossus were too big and he didn't have verdict in time.
Second matchup I was against White Aggro. I go big enough, fast enough to stop it in it's tracks before it's too late, and unlike Red Devo/RDW they're a little less threatening early, and don't have burn for when I have stopped his assault. I only sided out my two zeganas and for 2 cyclonic rifts. Won in 3.
Third Matchup was a mirror match(ish). He was playing Green Devotion as well, expect he was playing much closer to the original Top 8 list. This is where I really had an issue siding things out. I brought in my two rifts, and I think I sided out Nylea, one Catyarid (Because it doesn't really stop much, thought I wouldn't need 4) First game I won because I went bigger faster, and he couldn't keep up. Second game I lost because he ramped faster and got Domri ultimate off because he protected it well enough. But third game I got off a Cyclonic Rift Overload and won the match. Simic Charms and Cyclonic Rifts really helped me because he was playing the K hydra and Reverant Hunter version of the deck. I think I won't have much trouble with mirror matches in the future, since the blue access helps me control and replenish more. Any +1/+1 counter versions of the deck just get crapped on by my bounce access, and he doesn't have as much access to hexproof if they don't run Ranger's Guile.
Last match was against Naya. I got swept 0-2. He got off three stormbreaths and controlled my arbor colossus into the ground. It was really my mistake, I think I tapped mana wrong and didn't have my simic charm up for chained to the rocks. Was cruddy. Second game he just had all the answers in general and I never got anything going. This is where I had the hardest time side decking. I think I ended up taking out 5 for three burning earths and two C rifts, and two destructive revelry. But burning earth ended up being just as bad for myself then it was for them, and I never got control to put it down.
So I really need some tips for changes to sidedeck and what to side out against certain matchups.
I mainly need tips against ...
Red Deck Wins.
Esper.
Naya.
So if you could comment with advice for changes and what to be siding out, that would be very helpful.
